Bolivia Digna is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based in Cochabamba, Bolivia and founded in 2006. Its objective is to promote and defend the rights of infants, children, adolescents, senior citizens and other vulnerable social groups living in exclusion and poverty, in some of the poorest communities in Latin America.

Since 2006, we have been developing programs aimed at social development, the prevention of violence, the protection and defense of children who are victims of violence, education in Human Rights and Responsibilities, responsible leadership, and promotion of Christian values.

We run several projects and, each of them, while assisting the target group, also has the aim of promoting and instilling a culture of volunteering. To this end, as of early 2015, more than 50 Bolivians and close to 40 international volunteers have been part of our program for periods of between one month and over a year at a time.

As a volunteer with Bolivia Digna you can work directly with the children and make a difference as well as grow as an individual. What seems little to you can mean the world to the children!

We need people who will work directly with the children on our projects, but there are many other ways you can be an important part of the Bolivia Digna family and activities can include:

Organise innovative projects that are of interest for the children and/or their communities;
- Help planning and preparing lessons;
- Fundraising events and activities;
- Promote the work of Bolivia Digna through social media and with foreign agencies or universities in your country;
- Help with the maintenance and improvement of projects in our volunteer house or in the community centres.

If you have special area of interest, let us know as through our network of local partner organizations we can allow volunteers to split their time between working with us and working with another local charity.

You are sure to grow as an individual, learn things about yourself and probably rethink some of your priorities – you have a great opportunity not only to change the lives of the children but also your own!

Time commitment

We offer short, medium and long term positions, from one month to up to one year. Due to the nature of the tasks, it is beneficial for the children if you stay as long as possible. You usually work every afternoon from Monday to Friday, from 3.00 to 6.00 and use the mornings to prepare the activities with the children.

You must be at least 18 to volunteer with us. Roles do not require any previous experience. You just need to be motivated, open-minded, organized and reliable!

About Cochabamba

Located in the center of Bolivia, Cochabamba has earned the nicknames “the City of Eternal Spring” and “the Garden City”. It is invariably warm, dry and sunny and there are numerous parks, squares and avenues with beautiful blossoming trees full of birds. It is also the gastronomic center of Bolivia with a huge range of local, national and international dishes available from numerous restaurants and street vendors for remarkably low prices.

Where you will live

Thanks to the generosity of one of our donors, we have a fantastic, old, characterful house in the middle of the city that acts as both offices for the Foundation and home for some of the staff and international volunteers. It has a nice garden, overlooks one of the city plazas and is a short walk from the city center. Most of our international volunteers choose to live here as it provides a little peaceful haven in the heart of the city, but if you prefer another option, such as staying with a local family, that might be possible too depending on availability and your planned length of stay.
