I volunteered at Mothers Unite in the winter 2009. We were a group of young girls from Sweden and Germany who participated in a workcamp in Lavender Hill for 3 weeks together with enthusiastic and passionate social workers from the community Lavender Hill. With the facilitation of Mothers Unite we built a playground and made a vegetable garden together. During the time of the workcamp all the swedish and german participants stayed with local host families and got to know the culture and daily life of the people in Lavender Hill. In the weekends we went on outings to Table Mountain, District 6 Museum, Robben Island and many other places. Overall this volunteer experience was a beautiful experience that relly meant a lot to me! Mothers Unite welcomed us with open hearts and made such a tremendous effort to make our stay meaningful and fun. All the team members helped out with meeting our wishes and requests, making sure that we had a good time in Lavender Hill. I also felt that our contribution made a difference to the people of Lavender Hill and I'm still in touch with my host family since then. I can warmly recommend Mothers Unite as a volunteer organisation!
