Organization Description
World Partners for Development-Ghana is a dedicated registered grassroots NGO operating in Ghana's underserved communities. The organization was founded in 2007 by some local Ghanaians who saw the urgent need to empower underserved rural women and youth to eradicate poverty and vulnerability. Working in partnership with local communities, other organizations and volunteers, WPDG has empowered thousands of underprivileged women, youth, and children to move from crisis and poverty to well improved quality of life.

Our mission is to empower underprivileged women, youth, and children with the tools they need to achieve their social and economic opportunities.

Our Areas of Impact

Education with Success
The quality and relevance of education being provided at schools for the youth in underserved communities of Ghana is a very important issue for World Partners for Development. Our believe is that current education systems and curriculum often fail to provide students especially girls with the skills they need to reach their full potential in employment and in life. Such situation puts many rural young girls at greater risk for exploitation, early marriage, and lower income-earning potential.

Our solution is to empower rural schools to provide students especially girls with practical skills and knowledge through a learning-by-doing approach to education that can help them to: get a job, start their own successful business, or successfully enter further education.

Our school training program includes: solar energy, ICT, sustainable farming, social entrepreneurship, business planning, leadership skills, games and sports.

90% of students trained, find jobs, start new careers, or start their own businesses.
65% of our girls have enhanced their use of technology and the internet.
80% of our program participants have increased self-esteem and greater self-confidence.

Integrated Community Programs
Our integrated social and economic empowerment program provides marginalized women with the opportunity, for the first time in their lives, to build support networks, to share experiences, to learn critical skills, and to access new resources.

Economic Empowerment: Women and girls are more likely to live in poverty than their male counterparts. WPDG advances women's economic empowerment by supporting women’s social entrepreneurship through training in production skills and techniques, business management and basic financial literacy with earning power in their local markets.

90% of our trained women have become social entrepreneurs to overcome poverty.

Women in Leadership: Through our training, we work to advance women’s participation in decision-making in the public sphere, empowering women to play a key role in reshaping political, economic, and social conditions that affect both women and men to allow for equal opportunities for everyone.

The training has led 25 rural women to top leader positions in their society.

Community Health: Health is a basic human right yet thousands of poor people in underserved communities die everyday of preventable causes. Through collaboration and partnership, we concentrate on the areas of infectious disease, nutrition, medical care, water, sanitation and hygiene to empower and save lives in poor communities.

WPD-Ghana has introduced 105 rural communities to Eco-friendly Biofil Toilets.

Empowerment in Agricultural Techniques (EAT): We believe access to nutritious food is a basic human right and can be life-saving, especially for vulnerable populations like women, girls, and children. We therefore work with women and girls to build agricultural and environmental sustainable skills necessary to develop and maintain diverse, sustainable farms and gardens to overcome hunger and poverty. We also use a grassroots approach in working with women to influence local policy and protect women's farming development achievements.

97% women through our EAT program has established sustainable farms and gardens

Hands for Orphan Children As many children in underserved communities become desperate orphans and vulnerable in society when their parents or care takers die, WPDG partners with orphanage centers to improve their quality of lives and well being through educational programs and materials donation.
