Organization Description
UAOWF is a non-profit community-based organization operating within Iganga District and is fully registered with the government of Uganda (Reg. No. S. 54/8434).

UAOWF was formed in 2004 by a group of professionals in the fields of health, community development and education who saw it necessary to establish such an organization to respond to the challenges of the numerous HIV/AIDS orphans and widows in Iganga. UAOWF therefore exist to provide a platform for collective action against poverty, disease, and injustice to women, orphans, vulnerable children and other underprivileged members of society.

The primary objectives of the organization are:
• To ensure that orphans can access education and to care for their material, psychosocial, and physical needs.
• To empower widows economically, socially, and materially so that they live a decent life.
• To ensure that orphans’ and widows’ rights are protected in society and that there exists no form of discrimination against them.
• To mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS on widows and orphans and to sensitize the community about this deadly pandemic.
