Organization Description
Lightshine Evangelical Ministries is a Community Based Organization (C B O) operating in Bugiri District Eastern Uganda; the organization began in 2012 as a mentoring and Discipleship class with a vision of creating responsible and self reliant society.

LEM supports disadvantaged people like orphans and vulnerable children, widows/women, youth, HIV/AIDS interventions, relief aid, evangelistic missions/outreaches etc.
LEM partners with willing churches, schools, individuals and organizations to fulfill its objectives.

Preaching and winning people to Christ
Carrying out evangelistic missions in hospital, schools and prisons
Promoting care and support to the disadvantage youth, women and children
Promoting concern to the widows, needy, refugees and HIV/AIDS victims
Establishing schools and orphanages
Training believers in Christian and professional Education
Giving and receiving contributions for missionary, evangelistic purposes and charity work.

Our support is mainly providing education through paying school requirements (school fees, food, uniform and scholastic materials), domestic assistance like food, clothes, shoes, soap, jelly, medical care, bedding, training these children in Christian faith etc.

Most of children live in child headed families, needy families; single mothers/fathers etc. but meet at their project area for encouragement, counseling, bible study, games, meals etc.

A project area always has 50 children and above, if children are less than 50 such children are attached to another project area.

Our recent report reveals that for 2016/2017 we will be committed with five project areas unless otherwise.

It also reveals that due to increasing orphans and vulnerable children, there will be need to open up more project areas in the neighboring Districts of Busia, Namaingo, Iganga, Namutumba, Tororo, and Mayuge respectively.

There is need to use available resources, opportunities and donor/sponsor world to help these children and members agreed that each individual/organization is an opportunity like volunteers, their skills, and ideas are important in extending hope to these children.

There is too much joy when working with these children, all members of LEM have tested it and can testify and each of us are busy looking for ways of this project’s sustainability.

We register children between 3-12 years old and support them to youth stage when they are able to be self-reliant.

We also manage child–sponsorship programs with reliable and willing sponsors in order to help them live better lives.

Selection is done by the leadership of LEM with guidance of the partner church or school or any other organization here referred to as a project area.

Right now we need a volunteer with a title;International Child Care Officer (I .C .C.O) who will act as coordinator between our organization and the Donors, sponsors, funders, he/she should have skills in team building, and communication.

May God bless these young ones.

We are supporting them to be self-reliant through adult education, poverty eradication initiatives including micro businesses, agriculture (crop farming and animals rearing), and skill developments like African art and craft work.

In order to achieve this, women work in small groups in the selected project areas for easy monitoring and evaluation.

We also manage the widow sponsorship between willing sponsors /donors and the needy widows/women.

We believe that when support these women/widows, they are able to support their families effectively which have been hit by increasing poverty and HIV/AIDS infections which has left many children orphans and vulnerable.Through this project they are able to provide for the orphans/vulnerable children in their families.

Support is given after filling Humanitarian forms and the LEM leadership recommends that a given widow/woman or group in a project area needs support, immediately depending on the available resources, the support is given to them.

Like many of the African communities, our community too has been hit by this epidemic, leaving many people vulnerable with no hope at all.

LEM stands firm to encourage, counsel and extend a helping hand to these people with:
1. Counseling services
2. Domestic assistance like shelters renovations, bedding, food, clothes, nutritional support etc.
3. Providing transport to access medical care.

There is a special form these people fill after, LEM leadership making assessment; support will be given to those who meet the requirements depending on their health status.

Over 85% of the youth in our community are unemployed, this problem has left many hopeless ending up in gambling and drug abuse, this called for our attention.

Our organization has counseled, encouraged, supported them to come out of this evil; on top of that we have encouraged girl education among the youth through clever girls education project which supports vulnerable girls in primary and secondary schools.

The youth have been support to begin skill development like African art and craft, many have enjoyed this economic activity yet it has also helped them socially to bring good relationship among them.

Also making bricks earns the youth in this organization some income to support themselves.

Crop farming through providing seeds, training and startup capital has help to increase on their productivity hence reducing poverty.
