Community Based Organization

Organization Location:
Garden of Hope Foundation
  • Nairobi, Kenya
Organization Description
Garden of Hope Foundation is a faith-based community organization that is passionate about restoring hope through providing mentorship, leadership, and youth empowerment. We aspire to become the premier youth leadership development organization in marginalized communities. Our mission is to build sustainable communities through developing leaders among the youth in marginalized environments.

Our Projects Include:

1. Leadership Training

The aim of the leadership Training is to nature the skills of the students, provide them with resources and give them leadership opportunities. Each year we train 200 leaders who later join us for Internship or as volunteer. Many Students cannot join universities or colleges due to lack of adequate financing. Others have not identified their career paths and this program helps them realize that.

2. One on One Mentorship Program

Most students have great dreams, if you ask them what they look to pursue in University or College, many them will mention careers like being a doctor, Pilot, Lawyers etc. what if they get an opportunity to be mentored while in school? What if they get a profession to give them first hand information of what it means to be what they want? One on One Mentorship is meant to get different professionals each year to mentor high school student for a period of 3 months. This exposes them as much as possible in work environment, provide information and give them tasks related to that career. Our hope is that by the end of this, they will be able to make informed decisions career-wise.

3. Menstrual Hygiene

While a girl from a middle class family can comfortably afford to change her sanitary towel more than three times a day, her counterparts in some parts of the country cannot afford even a piece. This is the harsh reality that our team has come face to face with hence our determination to address the situation.

In some parts of Kibera, Samburu and Kitui where we carry out our programs, we realize that it is a common occurrence for girls to miss school when they have their monthly periods. Worse still, they are forced by circumstances to sit on the sand, unaware of the diseases that they are exposing themselves to. In other occasions, some men have taken advantage of these girls by asking them for sexual favours in exchange of a packet of sanitary pads.

It is in view of this that Garden of Hope Foundation is keen to ensure that these girls live a normal life with equal access to school, are educated on menstrual hygiene and that they can feel good about themselves as girls whenever they experience their monthly periods. Each year we provide 1, 500 girls with full year supply of sanitary towels and panties.
