Bio:
Creative, Smart, and Personal. I was raised in a Modern Orthodox Jewish family but, after spending a year in Jerusalem to ruminate on God, Meaning, and Judaism, I've become a committed Agnostic. How can we prove that anything in this world matters? We can't. But to live so nihilistically still strikes me as a waste of time. For this reason I usually "follow my gut", or do nothing, because if nothing is important then I might as well only partake in things i think I can give 100% of myself to. I want to give myself to people. I don't think I have a moral obligation to, but I feel an intense desire to help others and to share my vulnerabilities so that others can feel the warmth life has to offer and so that they may see hat everyone has potential for fulfillment- whether they find it in family, friends, art, profession, religion, sports, etc. I constantly feel the need to DO things, even when I'm not. I think this is why the first time I felt truly happy was when I first spent a summer volunteering with kids with special needs. The constant preoccupation and human interaction was something substantial for me. Ultimately I want to be a filmmaker: I want to manipulate my emotions in the from of visual stories so that I may, in a way, "talk" to masses of people- to let those who connect to my stories that they aren't alone and that their lives have the potential for happiness.
Volunteering Experience:
When I was sixteen I spent 10 days in Israel volunteering with traumatized children Throughout my sophomore, junior, and senior years of high school, as well as my gap year in Jerusalem, I helped run social programming for people with special needs within the surrounding Jewish community. The summers before and after my last year of high school I worked as a counselor for special needs children in a sleep-away camp. During my senior year of high school I was a classroom assistant in a preschool during my Spring semester.
