Bio:
Hey there! My name is Zac and I am a recent Global Studies graduate from Wilfrid Laurier University with specializations in economics and psychology. There are few things in this world that I enjoy more than getting outside and finding new adventures to go on and unique places to see. Perhaps the only rivaling positive feeling for me comes from helping others and contributing my efforts to make the world a better place, whatever that might entail. I have an insatiable drive to help my fellow man, but also a deep rooted respect for the environment which we have to protect at all costs. I am a strong minded, able bodied young man ready to explore the world and offer my expertise in the places that may need it most - sadly, today it seems there is no shortage of these places.I am interested in many different fields internationally; from law and human rights policy, to sustainable food initiatives and micro-economic action plans, even rebuilding from disasters or building for the future. My education has prepared me to potentially take on multiple career opportunities, but my mind has made me ready to help any way I can. So far I have mostly acted locally by supporting some local activist movements, volunteering in classrooms, and coaching through the minor hockey system that helped me acquire some of the most important skills I have today. That being said, I am currently looking to expand my horizons and apply myself more globally. I would truly value any opportunity your organization could offer me and would not hesitate to consider any new experience that may come my way!
Volunteering Experience:
So far my volunteer experience has been limited to a more local level. I have volunteered my time in some elementary school classrooms working with students, more closely with the ESL (English as a Second Language) students, to learn new concepts and complete assignments; I have been a goalie coach for a number of local minor hockey teams; for a number of years I have been a canvasser for the Canadian Cancer Society; and have dedicated some of my time at the local soup kitchen. Although I am proud of the things I have done for my local community I feel it is important to branch out to other parts of the world who need our help just as much. Ideally I would be interested in hands on work in the field of international development, conflict resolution, or global justice; however, I recognize that these positions may require a variety of other volunteer/work experience. In other words, I am very open minded when it comes to enlisting in international volunteer programs.
