Bio:
My name is Youssef Makki. I was born and raised in the Detroit, Michigan area. I am born to Lebanese immigrants who came to the U.S. for educational and working opportunities. My interests included social work and nursing. I want to give back to the world because it has given me so much to be thankful for. I have my bachelors degree in social work, and in December of 2015 I will have my bachelors degree in nursing. I am a person who stutters. Being a person who stutters has taught me to give, relate, help, and to love. I want to help those who are in need of education, health, and fulfillment. I was also a musician before going back to school. My main instrument is the guitar. I can also help teach children and adults music.
Volunteering Experience:
My past volunteer experiences include Detroit Friendship House, which is a food pantry that donates food to those in need. The population of clients is diverse, including Black, Asian, Middle Eastern, Hispanic, and European. Detroit Urban Farm. We harvested fresh fruits and vegetables and donated them to the affiliating soup kitchen (Capuchins). My duties included picking fruits and vegetables, weeding, clean up, soil mixing, and clean up. I learned great team working skills here. I am group leader of a support group for adults who stutter. This is a wonder opportunity and experience for me. I facilitate dialogue in a positive, non judgmental atmosphere.
Education:
Bachelor degree in Social Work. Next month I will also have a Bachelor degree in Nursing.
