RELEVANT EXPERIENCE: May 2015 to date Blueprint newspaper, Abuja Assistant Editor/Defence Correspondent • Write reports on efforts of Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies in curtailing the activities of Boko Haram insurgents. • Write features and analysis on efforts of government and humanitarian organisations in rebuilding the North East. • Analyze importance of synergy between security agencies and the mass media in curtailing the activities of insurgents. • Educate the citizenry, through reports, on their roles in helping security agencies with information in order to end insurgency in the country. • Edit other stories assigned by the editor July 2013 - May 2015: Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Niger State Coordinator of Media Relations/Senior Special Assistant on Press Matters The office of the Secretary to the State Government is the policy making and implementation arm of the State Government. My office provides support for this objective by liaising with the media to disseminate information to the public and stakeholders on policy issues. My office is also the Knowledge Management arm of the SSG’s office, helping to ensure that learnings coming from government interventions are documented and shared so as to bring about improvement in future policy implementations. • Produced monthly and quarterly publications that effectively capture the activities and successes from the office of the SSG. The improvements I brought to publications has led to 60% increase in demands for publications. • Wrote policy briefs on State Government intervention in health, education, livelihoods and skills acquisition, and others. Policy briefs written by me has helped in capturing evidence and making a case in favour of particular interventions. • Wrote success stories on government interventions, which were shared as evidence of best practices with other government departments, ministries and agencies and which were turned into publications for use to commemorate anniversary days. • Maintained website and social media pages of the SSG’s office to engage with diverse audiences and provide real life feedback on State Government interventions. • Initiated monthly media review of government activities. I sustained this initiative by building relations with media and maintaining contacts of key editors in the media sector. • Developed and executed crises management strategies to prevent and/or reduce crises impacts on the reputation of government through an efficient crises management team that was proposed by me and constituted by the SSG, which effectively reacted to sensitive issues. 2011-2013- Blueprint Newspaper, Abuja Blueprint is a start-up newspaper with the fastest growth among newly established newspapers. It is the third most circulating paper in northern Nigeria Senior Reporter and Head of Health Desk • Wrote investigative stories, features and news around the most topical health issues of the day. I made the Blueprint health pages a must-read and was commended by my editors for breaking news and the quality of my reportage. • I led Blueprints efforts to carry out analysis of health issues by providing research and speaking to key stakeholders in the sector. • I reported on work of donor agencies like USAID, DFID, UNICEF and WHO in key health interventions areas. I worked closely with donor-funded projects to help craft their messages to the Nigerian public and had been beneficiary of trainings and capacity building workshops to understand the nature and role of donor-funded interventions in the health sector. • Played key role in reporting polio interventions by the National Primary Health care Development Agency, UNICEF and WHO. Senior Reporter/Researcher • Wrote news and features on politics, covering key governance institutions like the legislature. • Provided leadership to junior reporters while on assignments covering elections, key legislative debates and government programmes. • Carried out research on key issues that are focus of news, helping the editor with facts used in crafting editorials around politics and governance. 2008-2009- Daily Trust newspaper, Abuja Daily Trust is the most influential newspaper in the Federal Capital, Abuja and the most widely read newspaper in northern Nigeria, and the second widest circulating paper in the whole of Nigeria.
