Bio:
I am a 25 year old lady from Zimbabwe who recently finished her Honors Degree in Industrial and Economic Sociology and Organisational Psychology. Besides my academics, i try to satisfy my passion for relating to people with different socio-cultural backgrounds by volunteering. i strongly believe in the power of volunteerism for development and for the well being of individuals and societies. i believe that a better world to live in is possible and it starts with me, with you and with the actions of every other individual. Being that said, i am a firm believer that hope can be cultivated in neighborhood organisations and household gardens and communities. My volunteering experiences have not only been rewarding but they have taught me that big outcomes can be produced by small projects.
Volunteering Experience:
1. Sakhuluntu Cultural Group (2012-2014) South Africa. An arts organisation that teaches young school children traditional music, drama and dance. This non- profit organisation aimed to help marginalised youth towards a more positive future through creative arts. i taught children traditional dances from Zimbabwe and helped them make instruments out of recycleable materials. i also coordinated dances and art projects that were later on show cased at South Africa's biggest national arts festival- Grahamstown National Arts Festival and Grahmastown Youth Festival. 2.River of Life Church- BEEDZ project (2014) South Africa. BEEDZ is a skills training project within River of Life Church, in Grahamstown. The BEEDZ target group is single women affected by HIV/AIDS who are unemployed. These women come from the previously disadvantaged areas in and around Grahamstown. The BEEDZ Project offers theoretical and practical skills training in a variety of areas. During my time with BEEDZ,i contributed in training and teaching women basic computer skills which would assist them in their future workplaces. i was also involved in the organising and logistical planning at fundraising events. this program empowered women from disadvantaged backgrounds to stand on their feet and make a living from the skills they had gained after completion of project. 3. Rose of Sharon welfare organisation (2015 - July 2016). This is a voluntary organisation that provides shelter, food, education and health care to orphans. Most of these children are either abandoned or dumped in the streets or orphaned with no extended family to provide care. i assist with child care mainly after school activities three times a week, such as helping children with homework. i also assisted in the implementation of a program that helps young children with entrepreneurship skills such as agricultural activities mainly focusing on cash crops such as green vegetables and onions, baking and knitting which they sell at local festivals, farmers market and craft fairs. i am deeply committed to issues that affect women and children and i have extensive knowledge child care. Therefore i am currently seeking to volunteer at community organisations that mainly deal with children and women.
