Bio:
My name is Sennan, meaning "little wise" and last year I graduated from University in BSc Environmental Science. Since graduation, I have worked as a consultant covering renewable energy and waste minimization/recovery, and between Feb-Apr I volunteered with VSO in Zambia as part of the International Citizen Service (ICS) funded by DFID. I have a great deal of academic knowledge of International Development, but my time in Zambia has given me insight into the problems of carrying out accurate research, the implementation of strategies by NGOs on the ground and the problem of obtaining sufficient funding. I have a desire to assist projects looking to improve social mobility, address environmental issues and lend my technical ability in research projects.
Volunteering Experience:
In Zambia, my main role was facilitating sessions on HIV/AIDs and Gender Based Violence in local clinics, schools and communities. However, I have a huge interest in social mobility and environmental issues, as such I devoted a great deal of time to seeking school sponsorship for orphans from local NGOs and lead a team of 22 to survey and map the sanitation systems of the largest unplanned settlement in the town (with an attempt to seek funding from UK WaterAid for the clinics responsible for cleaning drinking wells). Further to returning to the UK, I have volunteered in a local Jobcentre assisting 18-25 year olds apply for volunteer opportunities and coordinating a programme seeking sponsorship for an NGO back in Zambia.
Education:
BSc Environmental Science (2:1), 3 A-Levels, 3 AS Levels, 9 GCSEs.
Occupation:
Return Volunteer
Other Skills:
Research
Project Management
