Bio:
My name is Sennan, meaning "little wise". I have previously worked as a consultant on renewable energy and waste minimization/recovery, administrator for Ofgem (renewable energy regulation) and volunteered with VSO in Zambia as part of the International Citizen Service (ICS) funded by DFID. Currently, I am researching the affects of climate change on the most vulnerable in Zambia's cities as part of a doctorate (PhD). I have a strong academic background (PhD, BSc Environmental Science), but my experience in private and public sectors, as well as my time in Zambia, has given me particular insight into the challenges of conducting high-impact research, financial and regulatory burdens of energy projects, effective management of volunteers in NGOs and the socio-environmental problems found in many cities of developing countries. I am keen to work with NGOs to conduct research, develop projects and deliver effective solutions.
Volunteering Experience:
In Zambia, my delegrated role was facilitating sessions on HIV/AIDs and Gender Based Violence in local clinics, schools and communities. However, I found time to seek school sponsorship for orphans from local NGOs and lead a team of 22 volunteeers to survey and map the sanitation systems of the largest "unplanned" settlement in the town. On to returning to the UK, I volunteered in a local Jobcentre assisting 18-25 year olds apply for volunteer opportunities, taught computer skills to older generations and coordinated a programme seeking sponsorship for an NGO back in Zambia.
