Bio:
My name is Sarah and in May 2014 I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a bachelor's in forensic biology and a minor in chemistry. I currently work at a pharmaceutical developmental lab with vaccines. My hobbies include running, yoga, jazz dancing, hiking, and reading both fiction and non-fiction. I am passionate about traveling and I want to use my degree and skills to influence the world and other people for the better. My goal for the next few years is to build my career and travel to various parts of the world trying to help other people and the environment. I am interested in learning about and experiencing other cultures, histories, and religions. I strive for personal growth through experiencing volunteering abroad.
Volunteering Experience:
While I was in college I spent my free time being a lead in my club, Circle K International, which is a club dedicated to volunteer work. Through this club I gained volunteer experience at the Richmond SPCA working with cats and dogs, including bottle feeding kittens. I also volunteered at an organization called BARK which is dedicated to helping dogs find homes and preventing dogs from going to shelters. I also tutored elementary school kids, lead a Relay for Life team, working with March of Dimes, and contributed to the Eliminate project. One of my larger volunteer experiences included being a camp counselor at the Muscular Dystrophy Association. For a week I helped my camper, a middle school aged girl confined to a scooter, participate in various camp activities that she would otherwise not be able to participate in due to her physical disability. I am looking to travel to various parts of the world including Thailand, India, Peru, Australia, western Europe, and Asia. I am looking for an experience that will last 1-3 weeks. I have experience in tutoring children, working with people with disabilities, math and science subjects. Through school I did a large research project on environmental studies and I concentrated my degree in biology so anything involving environmental studies would be a wonderful opportunity.
