Bio:
I have been attending a college prep school, St. Bernard Prep in Cullman, AL for the past four years. Leaving home at age 13 forced me to grow up faster than I had anticipated. Because of my distance from my immediate family I have learned how to cultivate and create close relationships with ease. I have also engaged in school activities such as cross-country, track, choir, Spanish club, and drama. My values are founded in Catholic-Christian beliefs. Our campus ministry helped introduce me to these beliefs. I have participated in community growing exercises such as volunteer work and theological studies. I am about a year younger than most in my graduating class. After much consideration I have decided to take a gap year before continuing on to college. I have always been passionate about volunteer work; there is nothing more satisfying than doing something that makes other people’s lives better. I am a very self-sufficient person and am particularly good at adjusting to new and different surroundings. I am comfortable calling nearly any place home. This attribute makes me versatile and flexible. Through volunteer work I hope to discover and explore my own strengths and weaknesses. I want to develop myself through giving everything that I can.
Volunteering Experience:
Before age 11 I volunteered at a monthly dinner put on by my school to benefit local charities. I would cook and help with food service. When I was 12-14 I volunteered at a homeless shelter in Colorado. I assisted with food preparation and serving. At ages 14-16 I volunteered at a nursing home in Alabama. Every week I spoke with, sang and played games with the elderly. Every year I volunteer at many small, one time events. For example, I volunteered at the Springfest put on by our school by helping with parking and miscellaneous vendor needs. As part of our math honor society, for the past 3 years I have tutored many struggling students. Most recently I have assisted at our local food bank/homeless shelter in Alabama by organizing and stocking food and clothing.
Education:
Highschool graduate including college prep and honors classes
Occupation:
Camp councilor for a kids (ages 6-13) summer camp
Other Skills:
Painting. Light carpentry. Basic landscaping. Advanced math and science tutor.
