Bio:
I would like volunteer for several reasons, first of all I believe it is crucial to give something back to those who may be in a less fortunate position as me. Currently being a student means this is the perfect time for me to volunteer as over the summer I will have lots of spare time, and I couldn't think of a more effective and inspirational way to spend my summer. Many young people face blocked opportunities in several areas of their lives, I believe my enthusiasm and positive attitude as a volunteer could help provide encouragement to resist such obstacles. Having grown up the eldest in a large family I have always had a passion to work with children, seeing them grow and develop with my support as a sister is something really special to me. I feel I can apply this passion into supporting other less fortunate children around the world, working with and working with children and young people is something I aim to do in the future as well as now. I believe I would learn many new things from being a volunteer as well as being inspired by having the opportunity to give something back and help others. I am outgoing and reliable with the ability to work well in a team, I enjoy meeting new people and learning about new cultures. Volunteering is an opportunity I want to take hold of now whilst I am able.
Volunteering Experience:
As a first year student I have already fully immersed myself into university life. I currently volunteer on a student listening service, run by students for the students this service is called nightline. Being part of this scheme I have gain many communication and listening skills which is crucial when working with a range of people with a range of issues. I am also a student advocate, which is part of the widening participation program in our university. As a student I represent the university and aim to actively encourage children from all walks of life to attend university in the future. I am particularly passionate about this role as it would of been a scheme I would of benefited from due to previous doubts I had about attending university. I am also a committee member of a health and beauty society, this role requires organisation and dedication. Being a committee member allowed me to meet new people at my university and gave me communication skills when presenting a society meeting. Over the christmas period I have also volunteered at a local community centre where we provided a christmas dinner to those who otherwise may not have had a meal on christmas day. This was a truly rewarding and heart-warming experience.
