Bio:
I am currently completing a BA degree in psychology and have been taking classes in interior design but also have a love for medical science and healthcare as well. I would love to gain experience in the world of healthcare before settling down on a career path. Since I am not affiliated with any medical professionals in my personal life, I don't really have a way to access the world of medicine before deciding to commit to a career in it. I would really love for the opportunity to be surrounded by a medical environment to see if I feel like it is a place that I can feel myself connecting to and possibly fill the missing link that I have been looking for in a career. I have been volunteering to aid those who suffer from physical illnesses for the majority of my life, but, I have never been in a regimented and professional environment when doing so. For this reason, I have never felt a sense of constancy which is required when attempting to figure out if this something that I can see myself doing on a day to day basis. I have an interest in nutritional counseling, and have a gift of crafting things with my hands which I have been using in the arts up until now, but can be helpful in a surgical setting. I will never know if this is something that I would like to pursue without trying it out first and would like to give myself the chance to figure it out.
Volunteering Experience:
I have been volunteering, and continue to volunteer for the organization Kids of Courage for four years now. This organization takes children and teens with physical disabilities on all-expense paid and medically supervised trips/adventures that they would not normally be medically able to go on without their help. Through this experience I had the opportunity to be a counselor and provide care and emotional support to a teenage girl that suffered from leukemia and had become paralyzed from the waist down due to her life-saving stem cell cell transplant. I have also raised money and have run two half marathons for the organizations. I have also been a volunteer for the organization Chai Lifeline for about six years now and have done a variety of jobs for this community based organization such as been a camp counselor for their summer camp program for teens with physical disabilities and help organize fundraisers for them. I have also volunteered at several food drives, during my high school years and was president of the school's charity club.
