Bio:
My name is Peggy Bodine and I currently live in Largo, Florida. I have one child; a son who lives in Palm Harbor, Florida with his wife and their 2 large dogs and who, I am very proud to say, is a firefighter/Paramedic. I also have 2 brothers and 1 sister. Our father was in the Air Force so we were all born and live in different states and countries. Our parents gave us a sense of adventure. Their motto was: Work hard, Play hard – Life is not a dress rehearsal! I have been teaching math in Clearwater, Florida for many years. As of December 2015, I put in for a leave of absence in order to follow my dream of exploring the world. I have taught many different subjects and grade levels over the years. My resume details my teaching experiences in New Mexico, California, Colorado, and Florida. Upon graduating from UNM, my first teaching experience was on an Indian Reservation. All of my teaching experience has been in the public schools with the exception of a summer job with a Montessori Day Care Center. I received a Gifted and Talented Certificate from UCR which Ironically led me to a career working with At Risk/ ESE students. Therefore I am very familiar with differentiating instruction and addressing the multiple intelligences for individual learning styles. I spent last summer in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where I earned my TEFL Certificate. Since August, I have been teaching ESOL students which has been a wonderful opportunity and so exciting to interact with students who come from many different countries and have such a diverse range of foreign languages and cultural backgrounds. As an experienced professional I am able to easily access Common Core and Florida State Standards for each grade level. Of course there are the 3 R’s which need to be taught at each level, however my goal would be to integrate as much as possible into my curriculum and instruction through Thematic Units. I would create these units based on student interests, parent wishes, local attractions and cultural events. Thematic Units are a holistic approach to learning and resources are unlimited. A well developed unit will include all disciplines and draw from every aspect of the local culture and environment including: history, foods/cooking, theatrical arts, architecture, religion and beliefs, flora and fauna, economy, current events, language & local colloquiums. I am, and always have been, very adventurous in all areas of my life. Some of the things I personally enjoy doing are as follows: For recreation I love all water sports such as swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and paddle boarding. In addition I enjoy hiking, biking and roller skating. On the Wilder side I thrive on zip lining, para-sailing and riding roller coasters. When it comes to spectator sports my favorite are soccer, baseball, hockey and the Olympics. I am also constantly looking for opportunities to expand my own education and cultural awareness through as many experiences as possible including researching the local history of a new place, learning a new language and local colloquiums, trying different foods and engaging in local cultural activities. My goal is always to meet the locals and embrace the culture no matter where I am!! After the summer in Mexico, my desire to travel intensified. As mentioned, I put in for a leave of absence for the remaining school year so that I could travel overseas.
Volunteering Experience:
I have worked with Habitat for Humanity in Pinellas County, FL. I have also done all the "Soccer Mom" activities; including but not limited to scouting, hockey, and baseball. I also volunteer much time tutoring math students before and after school. I would find value in spending time with orphans or with any age people in a Language Center. I am open to any type of volunteer work.
Education:
Bachelors - Elementary Education; Certificate - Gifted and Talented; TEFL Certificate
Occupation:
Algebra Teacher
Other Skills:
I am organized, experienced, outgoing, kind and patient. Teaching is my passion,
