Bio:
Hello, My name is Kyra Levau and I am from Durham, North Carolina. I am half Peruvian and am bilingual (English and Spanish). I genuinely love to travel and have a strong passion to volunteer and learn new things. I also enjoy being in nature. I am a very hard worker no matter the job and have always been a fast learner. I am very easy to get along with.
Volunteering Experience:
I have volunteered at various places including Habitat for Humanity, Pet Savers, Church World Service, and the Scrap Exchange. I won the Mayor's Award, which is an award given to kids who have volunteered 100+ hours. I have also done a volunteer trip to the Dominican Republic called Transcending Borders. This was a community service trip, including eleven other people from various schools. We traveled to the Dominican Republic and lived in a rural village in the mountains with a host family for a week. On this trip, I got to bond with native students my age from a high school nearby while painting a map of the world with them, in their school. My group collaborated with an International Mural group called “MARHMI”. The muralists in that group painted a mural outside of the school representing the economic problems in the Dominican Republic and how it is affecting the humans, animals and nature. After completing the murals, we started a grant for a running water project system in the village we stayed in, because most of the homes lacked running water. Before we left we got to speak with the elders of the village and help them with their English. This trip helped open my eyes to troubles around the world while improving my spanish speaking skills.
