Bio:
My name is Klarence, currently an undergraduate student of the University of the Philippines and studying Computer Science. I'm the first born of the family, and have always been given opportunities to practice responsibility and leadership. My environment in school was not that different; I have been challenged to have more initiative and be more innovative throughout my time in school, even until now in the university. I became part of a youth leadership organization called State Varsity Christian Fellowship, and was able to hone my skills in leading, find compassion, and understand leading through service. I have been able to participate in international events, such as South Korea and Germany, which allowed me to gain wider perspectives on global issues while improving my proficiency in English. Also, I am teaching English online to international students as a part-time job. Having been able to develop and understand myself, I envision to empower fellow youth leaders to find their strengths and use it for the good of the community.
Volunteering Experience:
My first volunteering experience was during my elementary years when our class had to facilitate an outreach program for students who are unable to go to school due to financial and personal problems. It was a rewarding experience, especially for my 10-year-old self. Aside from that, I was able to partake in a student exchange where to main goal is is to be more proficient in English. I acted as a mentor to South Korean high school students, and taught them for two one-week session's worth in Philippines and South Korea, respectively. Afterwards, after being a member of the State Varsity Christian Fellowship, I was able to participate in a community service in a nearby local community at the university. At first, I was simply a volunteer, teaching the kids literacy and values education. I was also able to organize the community service later on after being promoted as a Junior Executive committee vice-chairperson. Those are some of the notable experiences I've had. And each one had been fulfilling in their own way. Most of these volunteering projects involved teaching, yet I personally think I was the one who was able to learn. I did realize my heart for volunteering, and also my strength in teaching the youth. I do look forward for other volunteering opportunities, to also share my culture with others, and to help them find their passion, as I did mine. I do hope to empower the youth through service for the community.
