Bio:
Hello! My name is Kelsi Weatherby. I am an outgoing, quirky, passionate individual who loves Life, people and God. I have a passion to end world poverty and help people, communities, and families be self sustainable by helping them find their callings and purpose. I am also passionate about not only abolishing human trafficking, but helping the women, children, and boys who are trafficked, by uplifting them, loving on them and helping them rebuild their lives. I have taken on the responsibility of changing the world. I think changing the world starts with the simple conversations you have with the cashier at the store, bringing a smile, a laugh and a compliment to each person you encounter. Its finding ways to help people and uplift them. It is feeling how people feel, hurting when they hurt, celebrating with them when needed. It is listening when no one else will. It is also leaving your fear, comfort and routine life, to step out and take chances. It is sacrificing your needs for others who have less. It is finding ways to bless people without needing anything in return. My absolute favorite encounter was with a man who was my friends and I server at IHOP. Most people go in a restaurant to go eat and get out. Their only encounter with the waiter is to ask for a refill for their drink or order their food. I chose to step out and get to know my waiter. I asked him about his life and really had a listening ear. He told me his story of working 3 jobs to provide for his 5 children. He came from Mexico and has not been able to see his mother for 15 years. He got very sad knowing his life was extremely hard and he probably could never have the funds to see his mother again. My heart broke for him and I returned with a gift card to help him fly to Mexico to see his mom. I never saw him again after that. But his tears and hugs made me very blessed to know I helped. I want to spend my entire life helping people. It is what I live for. Some other facts about me is that I love to act, I grew up in a big family taking care of over 100 foster kids.I love to travel around the world and learn about different cultures!
Volunteering Experience:
I have volunteered in the country of Belize for two years in a row for a couple weeks at a time. I helped build earthbag houses, I helped minister to children of the village by organizing activities and bible lessons for them. We worked hard daily landscaping around the earth bag house, we dug holes, we cleared trash from a landfill to build two houses for a deserving family living in the dumps. We helped paint and cemented the house as well. During many days my responsibility was to reach out to not only the children in the Spanish villages by organizing activities, but to also find ways to reach out to the different cultures of people to minister to them. There was a language barrier between myself and the Spanish people in the community. There were also many Menonites with different beliefs than us. We had to find ways to reach out to them and communicate with them. We offered them our service to paint their houses, fix their houses, work on their yard or play with their children. I also have experience with several human trafficking organizations. I have participated in a walk to raise awareness with the organization Stop Child Trafficking Now. I have attended several meetings, brunches, movie showings of Human Trafficking documentaries to raise awareness and continue to learn about how to help. I have participated in a PSA for Human Trafficking awareness along with walking the streets of Austin, Texas with several people to raise awareness of the dangers of trafficking. I also am a child sponsor and child ambassador for World Vision to help children in poverty get the necessities they need. I have worked booths at churches to try and get sponsorships for children. I would like to continue helping children and families in poverty by learning about their culture and finding ways to help them find their passions, gifts and help them be self sustainable. I would like to help people affected by human trafficking by uplifting them, working in safe houses and learning about human trafficking and organizations focused on poverty. I would like to know how they are ran and the behind the scenes to what goes into the organizations. I would like to be on the scene with children in orphanages or affected by disease, lack of nutrition, or living in poverty.
