Bio:
My name is Jennifer Montero, 42, married to a Physics Professor, with 2 girls, age 14 and 7. I am the eldest in the family of 9. My mother lives near my house. My father died 9 years ago. I am working as a Faculty of the University of St. La Salle, Bacolod City. Through work we were able to finish our education... I used to shave my head to look like a boy to have a summer job for my college fees. It was not that easy but learned great things out of it, especially living in a squatter's area...were drugs and prostitution proliferated. But one teacher has told us that there is one beautiful place out there..with enough food, water and decent place. That's why we were able to use education not only to have a salary and become a useful citizen of our country but to help someone out there...appreciate what is being given to us and do something about it. I came from a family of athletes. Raised by a athlete father, my brothers are members of the Philippine for athletics. I used to run for marathon. My brother was just with our Philippine team last Rio Olympics as a coach.. Two of my siblings are in the US working. Now that we can feed ourselves, we want to extend to others the blessings though how small or big they are, to others. We used to accommodate one Indian national in my home, and consider him as our sibling....he became my daughter's big brother. After he left, several foreign friends became our family. When I attended a summit in Hong Kong this month, I realized that I can do something more. Hence, this application.
Volunteering Experience:
Since High School to the time I took my Master's at the University of Asia and the Pacific until now , volunteerism is part of our life. Last 1999, I was part of the Developmental Advocacy for Woman's Volunteerism and was assigned to teach students of insurgents in Luzon. Together with other doctors and young professionals we went to several remote areas of our country, help and educate and extend support. Once it is in your system, volunteerism goes viral....it becomes you life. kindness becomes your religion....knowing that the universe is full of resources to be used wisely and generously...
