Bio:
I am a rising undergraduate student at the University of Victoria, currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and future aspiration to complete a Masters of Occupational Therapy. As an ambitious, enthusiastic individual, I am motivated to make a positive difference in the lives of others, and determined to gain new knowledge. This motivates me to volunteer abroad.
Volunteering Experience:
Throughout my education I have always pushed myself to achieve the best, and in doing so I have had exposure working in many different environments. From volunteer work to paid positions, I carry a strong, collaborative work ethic. A glimpse of some of my relevant volunteer experience is outlined below; I can provide a thorough list and description of all my volunteer work upon request. I volunteered as dance instructor for three years, and it has allowed me to connect, and work with children from a large demographic. I have come to appreciate that children require empathic listening and care, because, not only was I their dance instructor, but also a mentor; they came to me with numerous non-dance related issues, such as homework, or trouble with friends. Furthermore, my dedication to the job allowed continuous learning, whether I was researching how to become a better dance instructor, or preparing new warm-ups and activities for the children. I also, volunteer as research assistant with the UVic Cognitive Brain Sciences Laboratory, gaining valuable experience as a researcher and a student. This experience has allowed me to expand my research and analytic skills, in addition to the responsibility of taking on new projects, and working as a team to discern new research interests. Additionally, at my volunteer position with NEED2, I offer youth empathetic support, future guidance, access to resources, and unconditional regard. This opportunity has helped me gain a better understanding of various illnesses and issues, and encouraged me improve my interpersonal and empathetic communication skills.
Education:
In progress: Bachelor of Science in Psychology (full-time student)
Occupation:
Employed by the UVSS (part-time)
Other Skills:
Interpersonal communication
Working with children
Charismatic and energetic leadership style
