Bio:
My name is Gabriella Golan. I am going to be a junior in college next fall and I am studying to be a nurse practitioner. It has always been my dream to volunteer in Africa. I am very charismatic, highly energetic, personable, and patient. I have worked with children and hope to continue to do so while immersing myself in a completely different culture, and exploring a part of the world I have always dreamed of going to. My passion is working with children. I am a privileged American and am extremely appreciative of my life. Therefore, I am constantly seeking opportunities to make children feel as important as they should.
Volunteering Experience:
Project Teach- an organization that promotes teaching for Ill children who are in the hospital and can not attend school. I volunteered as a Teacher once a month and was an ambassador for the program in my university. Save a Childs Heart- an organization in Israel that provides special care for children with heart malfunctions. These children fly to Israel from different countries in Africa that do not have the Cardiologists available. They stay in a home before and after their surgery. I studied abroad for a year in Israel and volunteered weekly in the home where the children and their mother stayed post and pre op. Keeping them company, playing with them, and teaching and learning from them. I attended their doctors’ appointments with them, made sure they took their proper medications, and often between the patients and doctor. Saban Free Clinic- I Greeted patients and distributed necessary paperwork for new patients to complete. I Performed clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, typing, photocopying, and filing. I Prepared rooms for patients, maintained a clean and safe environment for patients, guests, and staff. Cleaned and sterilized instruments, and responded to high volume of telephone inquiries with friendliness and professionalism; answered questions and referred callers to appropriate resources. Piniyat Haoramin, Jerusalem Israel. I Assisted in social services department of recently established children’s orphanage. I worked with orphanage’s founder and recruited 40 new volunteers. I played with the children, tutored them in english, played sports with them, or did whatever the child preferred to do. I maintained relationships with many of the orphans Camp Chesed- volunteered at a two week camp for children with disabilities. I was assigned to a camper with severe autism. For the two weeks of camp I became Charlies best friend- A 15 year old boy with severe autism. We went on field trips with the camp and did many different projects and day activities. Hope I made his two weeks as amazing as he made mine :)
