Bio:
About eight years ago, I moved to California with no prior knowledge of English from a city right outside Tokyo, Japan. I was in the third grade at the time and as soon as I stepped into the office of my first American school, I knew that I had to learn English and adapt to the culture as soon as possible. With daily commitment of studies, I was able to speak, read, and write at my grade level within six month. As a high school senior now, I have taken nothing but honors and Advanced Placement English courses and passed it with all A's. As from what I experienced from this overall experience, I've learned about devotion, adaptation, and flexibility. I am very open about learning about other countries' culture and unafraid to set a step somewhere I've never been before. Also, for the past year, I've also been working at a local learning center called Kumon, tutoring pre schoolers and kindergarteners how to read. My other responsibilities include filing monthly student report, grading and preparing students' work, handling customer communications via email and phone, and as a high school math (algebra to calculus) specialist tutor.
Volunteering Experience:
American Red Cross Blood Drive Receptionist (August 2012 - present): volunteer as a receptionist at local blood drives. Responsibilities include: directing patients and going over policies and questions with patients. Mt. Woodson Elementary School Mentor (October 2012 - June 2014): mentor kids to help them improve their social, communication, and academic skills. Lake Poway Day Camp Counselor in Training (June - July 2014): help camp counselors organize camp activities and promote socialization. Ramona High School National Honors Society (September 2012 - present): provide service both in school and within our community.
