Bio:
I am from South Africa and currently live in Taiwan. I studied Publishing and then English literature because I am passionate about literature and books. I believe in education and it's the key to so many problems. I have worked in the publishing industry for seven years and am now teaching English in Taiwan. I want to further promote education and reading for pleasure to empower young people, especially young girls. I have experience in editing, proof reading, writing textbooks, curriculum planning, project management, marketing, design, teaching and administration. I have strong organisational and management skills and am always willing to help where I can! Working in the publishing industry has taught me to work under a lot of pressure, on short deadlines and with tight budgets. I've been in Taiwan for two years now and it has taught me a lot about adjusting to a new culture and surviving without speaking the main language, although I am trying to learn Chinese.
Volunteering Experience:
I started Walk in Hope in Taipei with friends of mine. The aim is to walk in hope to raise positive awareness of mental health issues in Taiwan and around the world. We had over 60 participants at our first walk and we will be hosting the second walk later this year. I also used to volunteer teaching kids Bible stories at my local church back in South Africa. I am currently looking for volunteer opportunities where I can help organisations that are working on education. I would like to get involved in office admin, project management, editing or proof reading, marketing and/or teaching. I am very good at organising projects and getting the right people into the right role to get the best results. I am passionate about education and reading and I have always had a desire to help people so I hope to align the two with volunteer opportunities.
