Bio:
My name is Eleanor Ann Oakman, I am 18 and have lived in Minnesota my entire life. I went to academically rigorous private schools from kindergarten through 12th grade and plan on going to college after volunteering abroad as a gap year. Other activities I have participated in include playing volleyball at a national level, working for a bakery, and working at a craft store.
Volunteering Experience:
As a child, I participated in programs that volunteered by cleaning the streets from trash, weeding gardens at schools, and packaged food that fed starving children in 3rd world countries. During school, I participated in clubs like Amnesty International by writing letters to foreign governments to defend innocent prisoners who are being tortured for small offenses. I also was community service intern at my school where we would lead students to volunteer, connect with volunteer organizations, and organize food drives for food shelters. A lot of my volunteering experience had come from a program called CFE or Cultural Field Experience. Though it is my favorite week of the entire year, CFE is a requirement from my school for each student and what it makes us do is spend a week of volunteering and working with shelters, schools, and elderly centers. Many students work within Minnesota and some internationally. In my experience, I worked with native American elementary schools, Food shelters that taught unprivileged children to make their meals and work on academics, and have traveled internationally to work with social service programs. I and a group of students have traveled to Costa Rica to live with host families who only spoke Spanish for a week. During the day, we cared for and watched children in tough neighborhoods, taught at schools, and worked with women and their small businesses. Other volunteering experiences I have done has included packaging bread to send to food shelters.
Education:
graduating highschool in 2016
Occupation:
cashier at Michael's Craft Store
Other Skills:
CPR certified
Flexible to unexpected plans
Always willing to try new and learn about new things
