Bio:
I am a nurse, about to graduate from Family Nurse Practitioner in Dec 2015. I have volunteered for medical service before and would love to use my skills as a NP to work with underserved populations and improve health. I have two daughters who are nurses, as well as a pharmacist husband. We are all interested in volunteering for a while in an environment where we can make a difference.
Volunteering Experience:
I ( and support from community) physically brought 450 Christmas shoe boxes to a rural village in Belize. My family and I volunteered for about 2 weeks in Guatemala, working in the inner, mountain areas, providing health care to indigenous populations, many who have never seen a health care provider. I served for 6 weeks in a very remote village in Ghana, West Africa, teaching a local healer basic health care practices, and providing care for hundreds of Ghanaian people. I am flexible where I would like to serve, but am considering Central America and possibly South America, just because airfare is cheaper and somewhat easier to get to from where I live. I prefer to volunteer in a very rural area, offering health care to those who need it most.
Education:
I will have completed my Masters in Science, focusing as Family Nurse Practitoner December 2015.
Occupation:
Registered Nurse at my community hospital
Other Skills:
I helped raise awareness and money for orphanage for slave children in Ghana.
I have held leadership positions in church, social and community groups.
I am pretty well traveled and am flexible, willing to serve and am open minded.
