Bio:
I'm a 23 year old biotechnology student with diverse experiences ranging from Assistant Site Manager to sales associate. As a woman of colour and a muslim I understand what is is like to be a victim of hate. My beliefs have taught me that the greatest battle against hate and bigotry is channeling anger towards love, compassion, understanding and a will to help victims and educate the bully's. Growing up I have lived in the West and East so I have knowledge of different culture, religions, ideologies, and diverse walks of life. For as long as I could remember I wanted to do something, anything, but I was so afraid of hate and being a target that I did nothing. Now that I am older and wiser I believe that no matter how small your part is, if it can impact one person it can have a ripple effect and impact dozens maybe even hundreds. I want to spread love and acceptance in my community and my city while also comforting those who are victims of hate, because as a victim I truly believe that our experiences is a drive and an anchor that keeps us steady in crashing waves of hate in our world.
Volunteering Experience:
I have tutored math for a struggling student who ended up excelling in her classes and by the end of the year was proficient in grade 7 math. Photo editor for the newspaper at my high school, created the newspaper logo and approved all the pictures before production. Volunteered at Teach for Qatar which is a company that trains teachers to become effective in the classroom. Our main focus was struggling and difficult children; this was because we truly believed that any child had untapped potential and these children were acting out because they needed compassion. I also help out at the Sudanese community center whenever I can. I am looking for volunteering to help out marginalized communities (GSRM) such as the LGBTQ community, African Canadians, victims of hate crimes, feminist movements, and children who can fall under any of the aforementioned categories.
