Bio:
I'm very interested in doing international volunteer work, especially in Cameroon. I've done environmental/Volunteer work in the past such as removing invasive species from local watershed areas, promoting and canvassing for the protection of the crater lake area through an organization known as OSPIRG, and developing infrastructure within low income communities (mostly remodeling) and lastly volunteering at soup kitchens during the holidays within the portland area. I am currently a student at the University of Oregon finishing my last term this fall with a bachelor's in arts, majoring in Political Science and minoring in Philosophy. The last four years at the University have opened my eyes to the actual need of global volunteer work within newly developing countries and the motivation is self-explanatory once you see the hardships the global community has to endure on a day to day basis, I strongly believe I can make a difference.
Volunteering Experience:
- Environmental Sustainability: Removing invasive species from local watershed areas, while planting native plants to promote local growth. Canvassing on behalf of the creation of a more suitable policy which protects the crater lake area, while raising awareness of the environmental degradation within the area. -Soup Kitchen Work: During the holidays my local church volunteers at the Burnside Rescue Missions which provides homeless people with a hot meal, and a small bag of essential health care/ hygienic materials. - Boys and Girls Club: On an annual basis my fraternity raises money to help the development of the local boys and girls club, which allows less fortunate children to reach their full capacity intellectually and athletically while giving them an equal chance to be as prosperous as every other kid regardless of their handicaps (financial, health etc.)
Education:
4 years at the University of Oregon
Occupation:
Student/ Part-Time Construction assistant
Other Skills:
Intermediate level Construction which include demolition and work site management
Recreational Skills: Soccer, Volleyball, Track
Promoting Social Issues: Canvassing, Fundraising for Organizations involved, Raising awareness
