Bio:
My name is Catherine, but I go by Katie! I am from Mystic, CT and have lived in Southeastern CT all my life. I just finished my first year of college and have decided to take a year off so I can better decide what I really want out of my life. I love volunteering because, while I am very much aware of how fortunate I am, I think I could always be reminded of this more and give back to others while doing so. I am heavily involved in music, as I play the violin and viola, and I have used music to volunteer my entire life, playing in nursing homes and for other events for non-profit organizations. I love to exercise and have played many sports, but now I am mostly doing yoga and going to the gym. I spent summer of 2015 working at and aquarium and spent my breaks from school working as well. I am ambitious and curious and am excited to see what opportunities await me in both my immediate and long term future!
Volunteering Experience:
I volunteered at my local library for three summers, meaning I worked with little kids in various ways. I worked with many as they learned to read and occupied kids of underprivileged families as their parents worked irregular and either very late or very early hours. I have also played the violin and/or viola at nursing homes and other non-profit organizations' events for as long as I have been playing music, which is over twelve years. Additionally, I volunteered my time as a peer tutor in high school, especially in math. I am seeking volunteer opportunities that are more challenging than the ones I have taken on thus far. I want to understand other cultures as I offer as much of my service as possible in any variety of forms. I pride myself in being patient, and therefore find myself to be a good teacher, which has proven vital in my volunteer experience to date.
Education:
I have completed one year of college at Connecticut College.
