Bio:
Hello, My name is Caroline Garde and I am a 19 year old student from Dublin, Ireland. Volunteering abroad has always been something I have wanted to do since the age of 15 whilst I was in secondary school. When I was 16 years old, I worked hard to raise money for an organization called The Uganda Project which was set up by my school, St. Andrew's College. Unfortunately due to limited spaces on this trip I did not get to travel with the rest of the team. Ever since then it's been something I've really wanted to do but it hasn't been financially viable for me as well as the intensity of studying for the past 2 years. Now it is something that I want to do more than ever, I want to experience first hand what life is like for these people who are impoverished and do as much as I can to help them achieve a better life. Not necessarily through financial aid, but even to just hear their stories and show them the support that they may lack. I was involved with an activity called Model United Nations in my school which was a basically a model of the UN and there was student participants from all over the world. Throughout my involvement with MUN I was always intrigued by the Human Rights Committee in which we discussed HR problems from all over the world. From my experience with MUN, I know that somewhere down the line I want to pursue a career in Human Rights. I think that by starting to volunteer from the age that I am now will give me a jump start in realizing what needs to be done when the time comes around for me to pursue this path.
Volunteering Experience:
I have volunteered with a Christian Organization called Scripture Union for the last 4 years. This involved me working at children's camps throughout the year telling them about the word of God and also providing them with a range of fun activities throughout their day/ week spent with us. I have worked with kids from the age of 3 months at camps that were provided for families to kids at the age of 15. There is tough days whilst volunteering with these kids sometimes but this is always over ridden by the way in which the kids smile throughout the day and the sadness they have when they are leaving camp to be converted to excitement when they come back to camp the following year.
