Bio:
As a current student at the University of South Carolina, my education is very important to me. However, I know that for me learning extends far past the boundaries of the classroom, and I am currently looking to expand my horizons through volunteering in a foreign country. I know that I have plenty of time to complete my degree, but I feel that I only have a limited window to see the world. Travelling has always been a passion of mine, not only for the physical aspect of seeing different places, but for the intellectual aspect of being a part of different societies. Additionally, the time that I spent as an assistant coach in the Newton Youth Soccer league taught me that not only do I enjoy working with children, but that I find the act of teaching rewarding in a way that I have been unable to replicate in my academic pursuits. The opportunity to participate in a global program that would allow me to further pursue this passion of mine, as well as allowing me the privilege of participating in the culture of another country is one that I feel would be too valuable to pass up and is exactly what I am looking for as I take time away from my pursuit of a degree.
Volunteering Experience:
AMC Mountain Club - Trail Crew Member As a member of an Appalachian Club Trail Crew, I spent a month both creating new trails and rebuilding existing ones in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. This experience not only taught me essential wilderness survival techniques, but how to perform as part of a team working towards a common goal. Additionally, the time I spent on the Appalachian Trail granted me a deeper understanding of our planet's ecosystems and our role as humans in coexisting with nature. Newton Youth Soccer - Assistant Coach Over the course of the season, I developed and enacted practice plans for a team of soccer players ages 10-12. Apart from teaching the game of soccer, my responsibilities included creating a safe, friendly environment for players to grow and develop their skills.
Education:
Newton South High School Graduate, 1950 SAT, University of South Carolina (Expected Graduation 2017)
Occupation:
Student
Other Skills:
Wilderness Survival
Data Management
Financial Modeling
