Bio:
I was born in New York City. At 4 my family relocated to Philadelphia. At 16 we relocated again to Silver Spring. Since then I've lived in DC, Atlanta, Chicago, Charlotte, and numerous other cities. I've been something of a nomad for as long as I can remember and I'm addicted to the allure of the open road. Recently I've visited Turkey and Egypt. In Egypt I was charmed by the kindness and welcome of the people but their charm was overshadowed by the specter of poverty. I found it hard to enjoy my visit when it was apparent that so many local people were struggling to make it through the week.
Volunteering Experience:
I was drawn into volunteering as early as Middle school. Over the years I've participated in founding a learning enrichment summer camp for underprivileged children in Charlotte, North Carolina. I've worked with underprivileged children in Baltimore, Philadelphia, DC and Chicago. I also enjoy volunteer work at local soup kitchens. Why would someone so dedicated to volunteer work become a graduate student in an MBA program? While many nonprofits rely on donations, my concept of the ideal non profit organization is one that is self sustaining and funded through an independent for profit business. This is a concept that originates from Islamic finance. Owning one or several businesses whose sole purpose is to support the growth and development of non profit organizations is my personal goal. It's what gets me excited, what gets me out of bed in the morning. A corporate career alone couldn't motivate me that. I love helping people, it's my calling and my cause, and I hope that it will also be my legacy.
