Bio:
My name is Auna Carpio and I am looking for a place to volunteer that is well-fitting for my personal beliefs. Personally, I am hoping to benefit the following from this program: experience, cultural exposure, and pursuing my mission of helping lives. Rather if it is with infants, children, teenagers, or even adults, I believe we all have the right to all be given equal opportunities. My personal philosophy is to serve; I believe everyone should be provided proper living environments, education, resources, and most of all happiness. I am here to share what has already been given to me so others can benefit from me as well.
Volunteering Experience:
LOCAL EXPERIENCE: I have been volunteering at a local youth wrestling club (Federal Way Spartans Wrestling Club) for as long as I can remember (8+ years). It was a non-profit organization to have children occupied with recreational activities. I believe this was incredibly beneficial towards youth because the sport of wrestling can teach children obedience, discipline, how to work hard, how to set/achieve their goals, and most of all, engaging a love for a sport. Recreational sports, in general, keep children pre-occupied, keeping them away from drugs usage, gang violence, etc. Specifically, the club I volunteered at, emphasized the importance of education as well. Secondly, this summer of 2015, I have volunteered at a local non-profit organization called the Federal Way Community Gardens. At this organization, we would plant, harvest, grow, and care for plants that go to local senior citizen homes. This benefited the elderly by providing vegetables and fruit to eat and flowers/plants to decorate with to their desire. I believe it's always a great idea to help those in need whom aren't able to do things for themselves due to circumstances out of their control. GLOBAL EXPERIENCE; Ever since I can remember (16+ years), my family and I had a tradition of collecting toys, clothes, and shoes (used and new) to donate to the Philippines to children in need ATLEAST once a year, sometimes even more. This was all out of the heart and felt no regret/guilt towards giving up our time/money and putting it to use by helping others in need. Unfortunately, I do not have much global experience. Therefore, this program seems great for me to be involved in so I can gain that type of background.
