Bio:
I am a 20 year old Archaeology and Anthropology student at the University of Oxford. My particular interests include Gender Anthropology and how female and male roles are constructed differently around the world. Between the ages of 8-10 I lived in France meaning that I now speak French fluently. This experience also taught me an appreciation for different cultures and how effective communication requires both linguistic ability and an understanding of local customs, traditions and non-verbal cues. I also represented Great Britain in Air Pistol Shooting for five years. This opportunity enabled me to travel, going to European Championships in Moscow, Russia, and Vierumäki, Finland, as well as numerous smaller competitions in the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Germany. What I enjoyed most about this was meeting people form different backgrounds and learning about their cultures.
Volunteering Experience:
I spent the Summer of 2014 excavating in the Auvergne region, France, with the Laboratoire Universitaire d'Enseignement et de Recherche en archéologie Nationale (LUERN). This project was conducted entirely in French and involved finding and recording artefacts. In 2011, I spent the summer doing some more technical work with the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO). This involved data handling and using GIS to map the distribution of bird sightings across the UK. My findings were published in the BTO Bird Atlas 2007-2011.
