Bio:
I grew up outside of the small city of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania in a happy, although sometimes dysfunctional family of four. Throughout high school I was grade and sport oriented, just trying to do my best like any other person. My whole life I always knew that when I grew up I wanted to do something to help children who are not receiving the amount of care and love that every child deserves. Well now here I am, grow up and ready to do just that. Children are so pure and innocent, completely dependent on those around them, full of hopes and dreams. All they need is love to believe in those dreams. This love of children lead me to pursue a degree in clinical psychology at a small agricultural college outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania called Delaware Valley University. My plans after graduating are to work for Children & Youth services, while also pursuing my master's degree in psychology. After this, I intend to pursue whatever opportunities arise, eventually opening my private practice. I understand that I may not be the most perfect person for this volunteer position and all of this may sound cheesey, but I have been fortunate enough to grow up in a home full of love and I want to spread this love, to help even just one child feel loved.
Volunteering Experience:
I found a way to bring my love of basketball and my desire to help children together. During my senior year of high school (2014-2015) I decided to coach a youth girl's basketball team. I tried to inspire these girls through the game that has given so much to me. I planned out fun activities for practices that would teach them the fundamentals of basketball while also allowing them to have fun. During the games I congratulated the girls when they did well, and offered constructive criticism when they weren't having their best game. It was an experience that made a huge impact on me. I still keep in touch with some of their mothers to see how the girls are doing. I also was apart of Key Club at my high school. We ran an annual Easter egg hunt for the local children, hosted an annual haunted trail walk for children, participated in "Safe Night Out," a Halloween themed game night for children, walked in the "Take Back the Night Walk" to support rape victims, along with many other activities I have also been trying to get in touch with the organization "Big Brothers, Big Sisters' to volunteer. I believe this year, I will be volunteering there.
