Bio:
Until a few weeks ago I was a banker. I arranged multi billion dollar loans for multi-national organisations. The life i lived was fast paced, to some extent exciting, and well paid, however it was completely unfullfilling. A few months ago I made the decision that I needed to change my life, I needed to do something that matters. I decided to apply for masters courses and will begin my masters in Development Studies in september. I am fortunate enough that I will be able to take the summer off, and as a result I have time to spend some time volunteering. In terms of my skills, I am an economics gradate and a former banker. I have a good understanding of business, finance and entrepeurship. I believe I have a lot to offer small business owners, especially in the field of microfinance. More widely I am a energertic, a problem solver and I love a challenge! My mother has always teased me that once i get my teeth stuck into a project, whatever it may be, I do not know how to quit, or how to fail. This isn't always a good thing, but in this context I think it probably is! Fundementally I am a relatively smart, well educated energetic guy who is ready to thow himself into the right cause. If I think it sounds interesting I will throw everything at it
Volunteering Experience:
My prior voluneering experience is limited. I have travelled very widely, and have often found causes to get involved in for short periods of time. I spent a week at a radio station in Venezuela, a week at a school in Argentina, a few weeks on a farm in Nepal, another week on a farm in Ethiopia, but these have never been formal arrangements. I have always met someone whilst away who has told me about a project, so i have gone to got involved for whatever period of time I am able. It sounds horribly cliched, but really I just want an experience that allows me to make a bit of a difference. I think my most apropriate skills lie in small business and entrepeneurship, so that is probably where I would be looking to volunteer, but as I said i have energy and motivation in spades. I am confident that any opportunity that catches my interest I will be able to acheive in.
