Where Rainbows Meet – Training & Development Foundation is based in the community of Vrygrond, the oldest informal settlement in Western Cape. The living conditions in this area are extremely hard because of the high unemployment and crime rate.
Mymoena Scholtz and Micheal Mjonona started "Where Rainbows Meet" out of an old care 2008 with the purpose to help the local disadvantaged youth, and has since developed in recognition of the needs of the community as a whole.
Since the 5th of February 2009 we are a registrated NPO.
To our knowledge there are no other organisations quite like ours. The foundation is based within the community, providing services for that community, and is managed and facilitated by members from the same community and surrounding areas.
Alternative organisations focus their services on placing subjects within unsystematic training that they deem as important, whereas we identify the passion the individuals in the groups portray and we then enhance their potential through focussed training, ongoing support and mentoring to ensure holistic development. In addition, with our students’ home environments in mind, our students can concentrate fully on the training programmes and fulfil their future aspirations.
Most of these young people get involved in criminal activities because of a lack of guidance and support. Main objective of our youth development programmes is to keep the youth away from the dangerous of the streets and get them involved in community development.
We are offering:
• Soccer
• Performing Art
• Drama & Poetry
• Art
• Life skills
•...
Selwyn E.C.D. Learning Programme focuses on neglected and abused children whose parents are addicted to drugs and/or alcohol. For these children we have a new E.C.D. Center where we are offering:
• Day care
• After care
• Parental workshops
For many women opportunities have been shut down well before their 20th birthday. Multitudes have dropped out of school. Large numbers have become pregnant by fathers who will never support them or their children, so that both they and their babies are doomed to stunted, impoverished lives. We equip women from our communities with needed self-esteem and professional skills to be able to...
Regards to the high unemployment rate starting an own business is for some people the only possibility to create an income for their families. We are offering a business course in order to increase the possibilities of running a successful business. Additional we support existing businesses with administration e.g. registration processes or advertising.
The high rate of unemployment, due to low education and social deficiencies, leads to dissatisfaction, depression and low self-esteem, resulting in domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, crime, sexual abuse and prostitution. To improve education level and self-esteem within our community we are offering:
• Computer Training
• Life Skills Course
