Ikhaya le Themba offers holistic After School Care programs to primary school children of Imizamo Yethu informal settlement in Hout Bay. This service includes home visiting, advocacy and and referral for their family carers. We work to ensure that family units remain strong under the strain of illness and poverty and to support communities in caring for their orphaned and vulnerable children.
Objectives of Ikhaya le themba
a) Provide comprehensive after school care and remedial teaching to vulnerable children and Orphans in the township, aged 6-14 years
b) Support families who care for vulnerable children and orphans
c) Develop a Parent Centre based on our current pilot, providing holistic education to adults
d) Develop an Early Education home based crèche system to provide employment to carers and quality care to children aged 0-6 years
e) Network with like-minded organisations to encourage replication of the model in other communities
f) Build a sustainable organisation with a diverse donor base including a fundraising program from our community
g) Measure the Impact of our work and communicate our success to the local community and South Africa at large to increase the support to the sector.
iKhaya le themba offers a holistic integrated and multi facetted afterschool program that provides a safe place to play, learn and grow in the after school context. iKhaya le themba employs a community worker who visits the homes of 30 of our most vulnerable families and organises life coaching, parenting classes and life skills training.
