Organization Description
Founded in 2008 and located in Vrygrond, Cape Town, “Where Rainbows Meet” engages in skill training, mental development, and provides a safe atmosphere for children, young adults and women who are from the most vulnerable segments of the Cape Town population. “Where Rainbows Meet,” competes with such strong and pervasively South African disadvantages by providing several programs in social and economic development in addition to our myriad of other social programs. These include life skills and HIV awareness, computer training, CV preparedness, and business and computer literacy. Our vision is to easily acclimate chronically unemployed people from ages 18-55 into the general working environment. In addition, we have a crèche that accommodates 35 children from ages 2-7, a garden facility from which we produce corn, carrots, and peppers for our own kitchen which feeds 70-100 persons per day, a sewing room providing a market and income for 15 women, and we maintain a steady flow of competent international volunteers to facilitate our many comprehensive courses. Our mission is to accommodate the most immediate needs of township communities, but our vision is to see the culture of our community shift to one of competence and employability!

My accommodations was met thru a host family "Faye's International." I was extremely comfortable and felt very safe, which allowed me to volunteer with ease with the assurance that my basic needs were met. Volunteering with "Where Rainbows Meet,"was very good, I found Mymoena very friendly and organized, with a very compassionate heart to really make a difference in the community that she serves, she has a personal touch with everyone that she meets. and takes her work very seriously, because she really cares about the lives of these men, women and children. Michael he is special in his own way, very knowledgeable. I can only say that if you are looking for a real volunteer experience then you would go to "Where rainbows meet." anything else will not do...
My time at Where Rainbows Meet was one of the best experience I had in my life! I spent my time with the kids of the Selwyn ECD. It was such a pleasure to come in and see all these smiling faces happy to see you and play with you. These kids bring you so much... much more than what you think you will receive. They have almost nothing materially but they give you all the love they have. They need attention, love and caring. They smile when you play with them or take care of them. I never felt it was a hard work because it was all worth it when at the end you see all these smiles. Since my volunteer work, I came back many times to Cape town, visiting Where Rainbows Meet and seeing all the work and changes they are doing... It is so impressive everything they have done in 2 years... every...
Where Rainbows Meet is a fantastic organisation working in Vrygrond, Cape Town. Vrygrond is a extremely disadvantaged informal settlement. In this community, Where Rainbows Meet is well respected because of the fantastic work they do. As a result I felt very safe within the project. The organisation offers so many different programs that there is always work to do. Day to day I played with the kids and helped to organise the (many) different events that they run. The team who run the organisation are very open to new ideas, so you are encouraged to think independently and to develop new training and development programs that can support the community. I stayed with the director of the organisation. The house was in a nice, simple suburb down the road from Vrygrond. It is very safe....
I had the pleasure of staying with Mymoena and her family during my short volunteer stay and felt right at home. I was amply fed and had felt like part of the family. The community that she has built around Vrygrond is absolutely incredible. Even though they just started the organizations a few years back they are leaps and bounds ahead of most organizations I've come in contact with. I was at Where Rainbows Meet during Christmas time and had the opportunity to help out with the many graduations, celebrations, and community parties that they hold for the end of the year. I will absolutely stay in touch with the organization and STRONGLY encourage any volunteer looking for a place in Cape Town to hook up with Where Rainbows Meet. It will be an experience of a lifetime. Thanks...

My Time in South Africa was great, to work with these children is fantastic. All u have to do is give them love and take care about them. They dont ask for more. I am sure that i will come back and it was not my last time here. I just love it there!!
To be at 'Where Rainbows Meet' is one of the formative experiences I ever went through. Being here helps not only the people who live in townships, but also myself to grow in the sense of strength and sincerity. This project is full of love and offering people. When you work at 'Where Rainbows Meet', you will know what the real meaning of poverty is. But you will also see how much you are able to give and to make people, old and young, happy.
