Organization Description
The Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District is one of the Twenty Administrative Districts in the central region of Ghana by Legislative Instrument (L. I) 2022. The District capital is Twifo Hemang.

The District is located on the western part of Central Region of Ghana and occupies a landmass of 674 square kilometers making it one of the biggest districts in the Central Region. It shares common boundaries on the north with the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District, the south with Cape Coast Metropolis, the west with Wassa Amenfi and Wassa Mpohor Districts, and on the east with Assin North and Assin South Districts.

The District lies in the semi-equatorial climate zone marked by double maxima rainfall. The mean annual rainfall ranges between 1,750mm and 2000mm with the wettest period in June and October and the driest in March.

Temperatures are fairly high in the District and ranges between 26 ̊ C and 30 ̊ C. The coolest period occurs around August while the hottest is in March. Humidity is generally high throughout the year rising between 75-80% during the wet season

The vegetation consists basically of semi-deciduous forest that has been fundamentally disturbed by human activities such as farming, logging, and mining. There are, however, large Forest Reserves that gives an indication of the Original Forest Cover predominated with some tree species like wawa, mahogany and odum. The Forest Reserves include Bimpong Forest Reserve (104.2 km2), Pra Suhyen Forest Reserve I (82.1km2), Pra Suhyen Forest Reserve II (104.1km2), and Kakum National Park (212.4km2), part of which, is outside the District. In total about 25% of the landmass is virgin forest.

The District is also endowed with rich natural resources like gold, manganese, bauxite, pigment clay which are being mined by a large number of illegal miners. Natural resources like timber are also being felled by illegal chain-saw operators.

The District is gifted with human and natural resources, particularly tourist attraction sites, forest reserves, timber species, rich and good climatic conditions that have attracted a good number of tourists to the area. Among the famous attraction sites are the renowned Kakum National Park which covers an area landmass of 375 square kilometers, Bimpong forest reserve (104.2) square kilometers, and Prasuhyen forest reserve (82.1) square kilometers.

Engage yourself in Ghanaian life while contributing to the maintenance and education of children, health care and many more. This is an occasion for you to connect with the Ghanaian culture, while being a part of broader positive community change, supported by volunteers from around the world.
While you're volunteering in the district, you will be accommodated in a shared house alongside likeminded volunteers and experience the traditional Ghana diet. We recommend visiting some of the many beaches along the gulf of guinea, sampling some local cuisine at a 'chop bar' in Hemang, or learning more about the African slave trade at the Cape Coast and Elmina Castle. .

THLDD Volunteer Projects: Only US $100 application fee + US $500 per month (for the first three month of placement), and $250 per month of placement afterwards. This includes accommodation, meals (breakfast), coordination, supervision, training, and airport pick up.

We have several opportunities for volunteers to assist with teaching in the following: • Pre-School (4-5 year olds) • Primary School (6-11 year olds) • Junior Secondary School (12-14 year olds) Subjects range from language and literacy, maths, science, computer skills, environmental studies, physical development, and psychosocial skills to creative activities such as music, dance, and art. As a volunteer you can help to empower these children by giving them the skills they need for the future and to make their voices heard. A teaching qualification is not required but volunteers need to be confident in the above subjects and preferably have or be studying towards a university degree. Your level of experience will determine the age group that you work with.

As part of our agenda to provide accessible health care to the ordinary citizens, we need professionals and non-professional medical volunteers (medical students) to reach out to individuals, generously offering their time, knowledge and skills to heal lives. The district need volunteer students on international missions to help educate children and families about good preventive health care, play therapy for hospitalized children, and administrative supportive role for medical teams. Most importantly, when volunteers help others in need, they learn how they can make an impact on the world and become true global citizens.

One of the benefits of volunteering in this project is that, your placement will be tailored to your expertise and interest. The vision of this program is to develop frameworks surrounding social care and support. During your period, you will use your knowledge and training to help in dealing with some of the following problems:
a. Raising awareness and sensitizing communities on social problems.
b. Asses and address the needs of rehabilitative support centers and deal with troubled children. You will have the opportunity to develop long term care plans and health practices for these victims.
c. Review routine of support centers and suggest alternative improvement.
