Organization Description
Street Children Empowerment Foundation (SCEF) is a registered NGO in Ghana (G – 35, 980) providing educational opportunities for street children.

We employ unique social work approach to support over 280 street children to access basic school. We provide for these children necessary school requirement like other school fees and levies, school supplies (school bags, school uniforms, exercise books, note books, text books, story books), and health insurance registration. We also involve these kids in special theme based events and activities to shape their perspectives and give them a universal view of the world.

We, through our practical social work in the respective schools that these children attend, monitor closely and evaluate the performance and attendance of these children to ensure that our funds are expediently used.

In this regard, we are working hard to operate a facility we call The Learning Hub for street children, where we will provide both social work targeted at empowering street children through education and creative art learning.

Our Vision:
The future where all children regardless of their disparities have equal opportunities in reaching their fullest potential.

Our Mission:
To achieve sustainable improvements in the lives of street and deprived children in Jamestown and any other area that operate. Our work will be done closely with the children, their families and the community.

Our vision and mission will be achieved by:

• Advocacy:
To provide a voice for the significance of education, basic health care and gender equality among street and deprived children and their families. We will also provide them with possibilities to voice their stories and opinions to the general public.

• Educational support
To provide material support for them on their school paths and to offer them a conducive space for academic studies and activities.

• Creative Art Learning and Skill training:
To empower the children and their families by giving them possibilities in creative art learning and skill training

I got to know this organization when I came to Ghana the first time. I was really inspired by the work they do, so I went back to Ghana to volunteer with SCEF. I now was there already 3 times. The work they do is great! You can see how your work has an effect on the childrens lives. During my different stays with SCEF, I also worked in different areas. I was working directly with the children, helping them reading, with their homework and doing arts etc., then I was also working in the Fundraising Department to raise funds for the children and the projects SCEF does. There are many really good projects going on and I higly recommend SCEF for volunteering! You can have an impact in the lives of the street children in Accra and help them in their education. Also the Team working at SCEF...
During my second stay in Ghana in 2014, I volunteered for SCEF. It was a great experience to get in touch with street children. I had the chance to get in contact with them, learn about their living conditions but also see them laughing, playing and having fun! For example, SCEF organised an event called "Sharing is Caring" for the kids. I helped preparing this event but also during that day I helped to do handicrafts. Also the team was such a nice one: very helpful, friendly and we had a lot of fun together. All in all I can say that my time at SCEF was a great one and I think everyone should take this chance to volunteer for SCEF once in a life time! You have the chance to experience a new culture, find new friends and the most important to raise a smile from kids who don...
In 2014 I volunteered at SCEF and it has been one of the best experiences in my life. The Street Children Empowerment Foundation is the best structured organisation I got to know in Ghana. Due to this fact you as a volunteer can be assured that your work for this organisation will have an actual impact on the lives of the street children and the whole community of James Town. Volunteering at SCEF includes a wide range of tasks which enables you to get to know several different work fields. Volunteers read with children in the SCEF Library, get creative in the Crafts Lab, help them with their homework or just listen and talk to them. As part of the Sports Club you can also play football with the children or do other fun acivities and see how happy these kids are doing sports. Other...
