Organization Description
The Rural Women Center for Education and Development (RuWCED)-Cameroon is a not-for-profit grassroots women-led organization that works to promote the health, education, livelihoods, and human rights of rural women, youths and children. We work in collaboration with community based women groups, traditional councils, schools, health centers, as well as, explore and extend the relationship between resources, women’s health and women’s human rights in a bit to promote a humanistic vision of bodily integrity and well-being.

We network locally to promote knowledge and advocacy for women's health, human rights and livelihoods. We also offer services like: basic reproductive health education, psycho-social assistance to women and girls living with HIV/AIDS, sanitary pads to girls in elementary schools, sponsorships to children in school, assistance for farm and non-farm livelihood activities to parents of girls or guardians of orphans in school.

For the past five years, RuWCED has primarily been a field oriented NGO where it staff and some of its members reached out to the local communities within Ndop. However, based on our field experience that most vulnerable rural girls who are not in school and cannot afford land to engage in agriculture end up being preys to abuses and violence, RuWCED is establishing on the site vocational training centers for vulnerable girls and women (girls-orphans who were denied access to education, victims of unsuccessful forced marriages, those infected with HIV/AIDS, teenagers forced out of school due to pregnancies). In this rubric of starting on the site vocational training centers, RuWCED has decided to set up a free computer and dress making training centers to assist these vulnerable girls and women
