Organization Description
Penduka TB Programme’s main objectives:

• Support the Ministry of Health and Social Services in the implementation of CB-DOT’s in Khomas region.

• Community Mobilization & Awareness e.g. role plays, drama plays, radio sessions, health education.

• Intensive case-finding, defaulter tracing and counselling of TB/HIV patients.

• Skills training for TB patients through the TB secure livelihoods training and empowerment program.

• Conduct workplace DOT TB training sessions in partnership with NABCOA .

• Provision of nutritional support to TB/HIV AIDS patients and establish community gardens.

• Management of MDR patients at community CB-DOT and workplace level.


Penduka’s strength lies in its holistic approach to TB treatment. Our current activities include:

a. TB Treatment: establishing and running DOT points throughout the Khomas region, especially in Katutura, actively seek out treatment defaulters, provide community support for defaulters, and actively pursue case-finding strategies.

b. Income-Generating Activities: provide skills training and small business management skills to CB-DOT patients so that they have a sustainable source of income during and after treatment

c. Health Education: distribution of educational material in English and 4 local languages, community sensitisation, and advocacy, development of innovative patient education methods.

d. Nutritional Support and Gardening: establish and maintain 5 community food gardens, train patients in gardening and agriculture, marketing of garden produce.

e. Community Outreach: distribution of leaflets, introduction of the Penduka TB radio slot, TB Ambassadors, and TB Clubs at schools, participate in national TB/HIV AIDS awareness campaigns, use of mass media, creation of plays for community performance, production of a quarterly newsletter for patients, and produce a TB music awareness short film. Crafts: train patients in 5 different craft activities including beadwork, wirework, computer training, peanut butter and sewing with the aim of providing them with an ongoing source of income.

f. Counselling Centre: We provide care and support for TB patients who are facing difficulties in coping with the treatment and promote TB treatment compliance. Additionally we support those who face stigma and discrimination at home or in the workplace. TB patients with an unknown HIV status are encouraged to go for HIV testing.
