Organization Description
ABOUT US
We the above mentioned Organisation has been in existence since 2012 and started its social engagement 2015 in order to organise volunteers to teach English and Mathematics in local schools and support local children and young adults at the Ongula Community Centre.. Ongula Village Homestead Lodge strategically situated between Ondangwa (one of the oldest towns in the northern region) and Eenhana, built alongside an active Owambo Homestead (or Village). This is one of the first lodges in Namibia to offer an introduction to the traditional lifestyle of our Owambo people. Ongula Village Homestead Lodge situated in the heart of Owambo North of world famous Etosha National Park offers you the perfect add-on to your classic Namibia journey. We are in the rural area of the northern Namibia and surrounded by seven villages, which belong to the Ongula municipality. We work to foster cross-cultural understanding through travel and volunteer experiences. In the village, close to the lodge, we have two schools with children who need an extensive help in the listed subjects in order to be enrolled in colleges and universities across the globe. English and Mathematics are one of the core subjects in the Namibian curriculum and the subjects that poses most challenges to rural teachers.

LOCATION
Namibia is a welcoming and peaceful country with different ethnic groups, a diversity of languages and landscapes. The northern part of Namibia consists of four regions where crop fields, livestock farming and traditional homesteads are been seen along the roads. In contrast to the rural area are the cities with their vibrate and bustling life, which allows a modern and comfortable lifestyle.
The northern part has a warm semi-arid climate with hot and sometimes extremely hot summers and warm to coo winters. Namibia get more than 300 days of sunshine per year and a rainy season during summer months.

PROGRAM
As a volunteer, you are an essential part of our voluntourism team, assisting our efforts in providing children and young adults with a better education and a brighter future. Throughout this experience you will have rewarding opportunities to help, prepare, implement and evaluate weekly learning activities. Volunteers will teach Grade 10 learners at a local school and in the afternoon support local children with Homework, English, Mathematics, ICT and other necessary subjects at the Ongula Community Centre. You will experience the local culture and tradition and in exchange you can share your knowledge, life skills and background information with the children. The opportunity and possibility to learn from foreigners is always a highlight as we are in a rural area and far from common tourist routes.
Volunteers should be passionate to work with children, dedicated, flexible and motivated to work with children. Teaching qualifications are not needed but you need to be confident with the listed subjects and preferable experienced in teaching children.

MISSION & SOCIAL IMPACT
Our mission is to connect international travellers and students with meaningful volunteer opportunities to support local communities and development in Namibia.
Ongula Village Homestead Lodge combines tourism, education and empowerment to create awareness in the northern part of Namibia. We are providing information events and afternoon education at the Ongula Community Centre, to facilitate and change of thinking and to generate impacts and authentic cultural experiences. We work extremely hard to bridge the gap between your volunteer work and the social experience everyone should have in Namibia.

This was my very first individual volunteering experience. My first connect with the organization - pre to arrival, was exceptional because they were very understanding of my financial situation and were willing to accommodate me with what I had. Besides that, I felt that more or detailed information should be provided on the individual volunteer program or set-up in terms of the roll-out of the ones program way in advance – because it’s slightly different to the one on the website profile. My arrival, was very warm and welcoming. A start package or program was printed and provided to me. This program/timetable started with breakfast and ended with dinner which was awesome. A meeting with the Grade 10 Mathematic Teacher (of the local school at which I would be volunteering) was...
