Organization Description
We the above mentioned Organisation has been in existence since 2012. Ongula Village Homestead Lodge strategically situated between Ondangwa (one of the oldest towns in the northern region) and Eenhana, built alongside an active Owambo Homestead (or Village). This is one of the first lodges in Namibia to offer an introduction to the traditional lifestyle of our Owambo people. Ongula Village Homestead Lodge situated in the heart of Owambo North of world famous Etosha National Park offers you the perfect add-on to your classic Namibia journey. In the village, close to the lodge, we have two schools with children who need an extensive help in English in order to be enrolled in colleges and universities across the globe. There is also the Queen’s Community Kindergarten with children who needs clothing, food, educational and game material and not forgetting the love and care that every other child needs.

The volunteer options range from teaching to English proficiency, life skills, creative arts, computer literacy lessons to playing with kids at the kindergarten and handing in donations. You can choose to either focus on one or two, or even combine all in order to broaden your volunteer experience.

After school program - During school days, volunteers will help to plan and implement fun and educational games which always have an emphasis on developing important life skills such as team work and leadership. You may also be involved in homework support, English proficiency and mathematics lessons, craft making, gardening, and reading clubs. Computer lessons will also be part of the programs that you may also be involved in.

The Queen’s Community Kindergarten accommodates close to 40 kids over and above the 20 kids that lives in the homestead. Volunteers will have the opportunity to visit the queen’s kindergarten and help in playing with the kids, helping them with all the love and care they need, educate them too.

Life Skills Education - Rural young women out of school needs to engage in some life skill lessons or just spend time learning about HIV/AIDS and how to live positively or Breast Cancer awareness. This will also help in keeping them away from alcohol or getting in any troubles or crime.

Teaching - The aim of the Ongula Volunteers’ teaching project is to educate, support and empower the disadvantaged children and youth through a sustainable approach to community development.

As a volunteer, you are an essential part of Ongula Edu-tour team, assisting our efforts in providing children and youth with a better education and a brighter future. Throughout this experience you will have rewarding opportunities to help prepare, and implement and evaluate weekly learning activities.

Please understand that Ongula Edu-tour projects are continuously evolving, being improved, and adapting to the needs of the local communities with which we are involved. As a result, involvement areas do change from time to time. Rest assured your work will be necessary, rewarding and exciting!

This was my very first individual volunteering experience. My first connect with the organization - pre to arrival, was exceptional because they were very understanding of my financial situation and were willing to accommodate me with what I had. Besides that, I felt that more or detailed information should be provided on the individual volunteer program or set-up in terms of the roll-out of the ones program way in advance – because it’s slightly different to the one on the website profile. My arrival, was very warm and welcoming. A start package or program was printed and provided to me. This program/timetable started with breakfast and ended with dinner which was awesome. A meeting with the Grade 10 Mathematic Teacher (of the local school at which I would be volunteering) was...
