We were a team of four helping James to set up/register the organization this year and it was a great and above all rewarding experience. Don't be fooled by the postcard views - apart from the luxurious hotels and touristy restaurants the island is rather undeveloped and the communities are struggling with environmental problems, corruption, education and more. There is a lot to be done in Nungwi and the foundation needs your support. James will do everything to make your stay memorable and as a treat you are only a few minutes away from the beach. I absolutely recommend to volunteer for the Maono Foundation and would do it again anytime.

My experience with James has filled me in. I volunteered for one month in Nungwi within Maono Foundation. With 5 other volunteers, we helped registreting the foundation, starting the organisation, teaching three classes in Zanzibar School of Hope, creating the educational background to have the best learning environment possible. I discovered a really welcoming community in Zanzibar, met many amazing kids, saw breathtaking landscape and profit from the Zanzibarian way of living! James made everything easy for us, from the beggining to the end, we had a really good time together and a strong cultural sharing. I recommand Maono Foundation to whoever wants to meet the real local people besides the coconut trees and the beaches.
