Organization Description
Gown of Hope is a non-profit organization which empowers small scale female farmers in the villages and urban women social enterprises supporting orphans and vulnerable children's education. The small small female farmers are empowered in growing maize, sunflower, groundnuts, beans, cassava and rearing village chickens, goats, pigs and cattle while urban women social entrepreneurs are involved in knitting hand plastic bags which when sold the income is used to support orphans and vulnerable children's education. The plastic hand bags are exported to international volunteers selling bags in their respective countries. The volunteers after selling bags send money back to project to support both women and children. Mainly bags are exported to Canada,USA,UK and Australia where we have links with volunteers selling bags at churches,to friends, workmates and relatives.

The handbags are made out of shopping plastic carrier bags. This works to reduce city garbage and litter from the streets which people throw around. It is linked with environmental education with students from University of Zambia studying environmental education actively involved. Students collects used plastic bags and donate them to women at Gown of Hope who then knit the plastics into hand bags.

Our strategy involves mobilizing women in groups of 10 people per group. We have so far over 50 groups of women with the target to form 200 groups. Each has a project initiative within our scope of focus.
