Organization Description
Development Action Awareness Nationwide is a non-profit organization based in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. The D.A.A.N. Foundation works towards elevating the awareness, education and over all development of women and youth of rural and urban India. Through our efforts we are trying to create a better living condition for all. Development Action Awareness Nationwide has successfully opened two village youth education centers since the organizations inception in 2009. We have been positively influencing the lives of more than 150 rural children through our services. Our youth centers are open for visitors and volunteers to come and share their love, understand the education related needs and contribute in their own individual ways.

"Be the Change You Wish to See in the World"-Mahatma Gandhi

We are a grassroots organization working for village youth education, basic health and hygiene. We are also supporting other causes like helping HIV patients and homeless people with serious mental and physical disabilities. Our main objective is over all capacity building of the youth in the villages and working on their creative side and compassion through meditation and Yoga.

We are looking for people who are interested in participating in our-

A- Cultural Exchange Program: This is a program where we systematically introduce Indian cultural to the participants and provide them a cultural cushion. Its for those who are visiting India for the 1st time and have less experience with developing countries and wish to experience more and know more about the country in less time.

NOTE- We are looking for Ambassadors who are interested in marketing our Cultural Exchange Program and wish to act like coordinators for the same, if you wish to know something more please ask me.

B- Volunteer/Helpers Program: This program has less cultural experiences included. It incorporates few cultural activities and experiences in the morning and village visits in the afternoon, where you will be able to observe activities at our rural education youth centres and also interact with village kids. This program is for those with more experience in related fields and those who are experienced travellers.

You can participate as (a) Yoga Helper (b) Marketing expert (c) Helper at Homestay (d) Helper at our youth centres.

We favour people with previous relevant experience that can benefit both the foundation and volunteers/Helpers.

For those of you who do not have much experience in the related field and specially less time and exposure to Indian cultural we highly recommend you to take part in our Cultural Exchange Program and get yourself acquainted with Indian cultural and rural environment.

We also need someone who can market our Homestay and travel firm which is a source of funding for our rural youth education and awareness centres. This later role is now developing into a busy PR/Online Representative role necessary for both our Homestay, travel firm and youth centres.

The volunteers/Helpers mostly work 5 hrs a day, 5 days a week. Depending on the placement, a typical day includes on-line research in relation to projects, travel time to centres and actual field work. Volunteers/Helpers can work longer hours if they wish. However, we encourage people to take necessary leisure time to relax and enjoy what their environment has got to offer. At any point of time we can have a group of 4 to 6 people. We can place them on different projects mostly volunteering with children education, health and recreation activities. We prefer volunteers who stay for a period of minimum few weeks.

However, if someone wishes to come for lesser time, then we consider them as visitors and share with them our work, vision and dreams. Visitors are expected to support volunteers on projects for the youth centres and/or coordinate with the Homestay manager by looking after participants of our Cultural Exchange Program.

In order to know the area, city and our work i would say its best to spend sometime in proper communication with us.

Please ask questions , we love questions and love to share more about us.

For my first visit to India, finding an NGO project with a charitable purpose was hitting the jackpot of happiness! This meant entering the environment as a local rather than a traveller which was not only a privilege but a indescribable experience. Arriving into Udpaipur airport I was met by Samvit the founder of DAAN and I was keen to get started and meet the children at the youth centre and unpack at Chandra Niwas, my new home! DAAN (Development Action Awareness Nationwide) is a initiative working at the grassroots of educating rural youth around Udaipur city. Both two centres are fantastic and the children are a pleasure to work alongside Where do I start? My first trip to India and what a Trip it was! Working with DAAN meant I was able to dive deep into the culture and become...
