Organization Description
Our vision is to connect people with communities in need, with a particular focus on vulnerable children and women. We do this by supporting the work of local community organizations in countries through the placement of international volunteers.

The Volunteer opportunity Network was found after seeing the tremendous difference volunteers could make in helping local organizations achieve their goals. This was done after spending some time researching the different volunteer organizations around Africa and we were amazed at how expensive and limiting many programs were in terms of volunteer opportunities.

Many of our staff members have participated in one or more of our programs, and are experienced in international travel so you will find us a great resource when planning for your trip.

Our Network
At volunteer opportunity Africa we align with the idea of ‘local solutions to local problems’, so we work with local community organizations in each country. We believe that local communities are in the best position to determine their needs, and we provide volunteers to help them achieve their goals.

Volunteer opportunity Africa currently has volunteer positions available through our partner organizations in Uganda.

Achieving Our Vision
Our vision is to connect people with communities in need. We do this by supporting the work of local community organizations in countries through the placement of international volunteers.

we want to ensure volunteers have an incredibly rewarding and memorable personal experience on their placement.

We work with our partner organizations to support them in achieving their goals and ensuring that their projects are sustainable and effective.
Benefits of working with local partners

At volunteer opportunity Africa we value our relationships with our local partner organizations. When you volunteer with us you can be assured you are helping a local grassroots organization rather than a large travel/tour provider. This means that volunteer efforts directly benefit local groups, local communities, and local people.

By sourcing international volunteers for our partners we allow them to concentrate on the work they are doing to bring positive changes to their communities, rather than having to worry about recruiting and sourcing volunteers.

Our local partners experience the everyday life and struggles of the local people, they have intimate knowledge of what they go through and what they face in their day to day life. Our partners want to impart this knowledge to our volunteers giving them the opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of communities in need.

Our partners and their goals inspire us each and every day in the volunteer opportunity Africa office.

Local Partners
At volunteer opportunity Africa we align with the idea of ‘local solutions to local problems’, so we work with local community organizations in each country. We believe that local communities are in the best position to determine their needs, and we provide volunteers to help them achieve their goals.

What this means for our volunteers is that they receive a unique and genuine cultural experience whilst being immersed in a local community.

Benefits of a Gap Year
In particular, taking a gap year with a purpose, such as serving others through volunteering has many advantages. International volunteering is a great way to gain experience living in a developing country, learning about another culture and experiencing a different way of life. It is a fantastic way to grow as a person, to develop self-confidence and self-esteem, and is a tool for self-discovery and identity formation.

A gap year provides an opportunity for school leavers to develop skills outside the classroom, skills such as team work, project management and responsibility. A gap year with a purpose can add to a student’s CV and reflects their work and life experience gained.

We welcome you to get in touch with us to find out if volunteer opportunity Africa program is the right Gap Year experience for you or your child.
Travelling ethically and responsibly can be achieved through volunteering abroad. You could be looking to go away for some time or looking to have a short trip, but volunteering is a great way to spend a few weeks, months and years within your travel and will give the trip meaning. Volunteering abroad is a fantastic way to fully experience a new culture and to work directly with local people to create positive solutions and outcomes.

Gaining confidence and leadership skills that will benefit you hugely after you have returned home from the project, volunteering is a great thing to have on a CV. Adventure travel is for those who want a challenge and to do new things, while volunteering projects give a purpose and a goal to a trip. If you are looking to take part in internships and gain experience, there’s plenty of choices and projects in which you can become qualified and have a useful work experience abroad. .

To us volunteering is a two-way thing. It’s not just about the hands-on help and skills that volunteers bring; it’s also about what this amazing continent, its people and its wildlife can give those volunteers in return. For many volunteers it’s their first time to Africa, and we want it to be the first of many.

It’s our responsibility to make sure volunteers have a great time and are able to make a positive contribution to our projects; it’s also our responsibility to make sure that our presence on the ground is in the best interests of the local communities we work with.

To ensure that our projects are as sustainable as they can be, they are all thoroughly evaluated using a detailed scorecard before being set up. This involves analyzing the long-term viability and the impact of the project.

Every one of our projects has community stakeholders; we won’t run a project unless the community not only wants us there, but actually has ownership of the project. Community buy-in is essential.

We take a holistic approach to the implementation and running of our volunteer programs in Africa. We always aim to integrate ourselves into every level of the community working from grassroots to partnerships with local governments and we strive to maximize the power of volunteering and nurture a culture of mutual respect and understanding, and embracing diversity.
