Organization Description
Our programmes are part of a global effort to ensure that every child has access to quality education. In our effort to help improve education in rural communities in Ghana, Child Survival Aid Ghana requires volunteers who are enthusiastic and can help teach children.

Are you ready to use your teaching skills to improve education for children around the communities through an immense volunteer service-teaching project? You can do so much more than just teach English on this project; you will be working side-by-side with your students, sharing perspectives and encouraging cultural understanding. As an English teacher you will also be exposing your students to one of the world’s most spoken languages. Students range in age from primary school age to the elderly – but no matter who sits in your classroom, teaching English is bound to be an extraordinarily fulfilling experience. There are many rural schools that require volunteer. As a volunteer you will help to empower school children by giving them the skills they need for their future and to make their voice heard.
Volunteers will have opportunities to assist with teaching in the following areas: –

1. Pre-School (2-5 year olds)
2. Primary School (6-11 year olds)
3. Junior High School (12-14 year olds)
4. Sports Education
5. Orphanages
6. Teaching basic computer skills, in both school and community classes
7. Helping children with reading and choosing books

Subjects range from language and literacy, English, Mathematics, French, Science, Computer Skills, Environmental Studies and Physical Education that includes football (soccer), surf, capoeira, volleyball, juggling, acrobatics, athletic and many others to creative activities such as music and art. This program does not include a training process, therefore the volunteer is expected to be able to conduct classes independently or assist teachers in the classroom.
Additionally, teaching volunteers may involve other educational projects such as organizing quiz competitions amongst other schools and improving reading habits amongst school children.

A teaching qualification is not required but volunteers must have the passion, confidence and willingness to teach. You will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of under-privileged children like orphans. The projects offer you a great way to experience the Ghanaian way of life and intercultural exchange.

Opportunities in teaching: –English instruction in the world is spotty at best, so volunteering to teach English will provide young students with a supplement to what they learn in school and will give people who never took English courses the opportunity to learn the language. It is also an excellent opportunity to give those living in low-income communities a chance to broaden their horizons and have access to the language that fuels the global community.

Skills needed to teach: – If you are thinking about volunteering to teach and have no teaching experience, don’t worry! The teaching placements are flexible – from tutoring students to teaching an entire class.
